try closing a 4:10 mile in 53 and see how silky smooth your stride is, compadre.
but yeah, normally his stride is a bit *unconventional*

I don't know if he'll ever be really great but finally he's trying and it's fun watching. Stay tuned for future developments, that's what's all about from my perspective.

There were a lot of good finishers in the race. East wanted it slow for that reason and the two runner that finished last have 800 PRs of 1:45.28 and 1:44.8x. Smith killed the indoor mile at NCAA off an easy pace and he probably thought it would be a good chance to take this race given is recent breaching of the 1:44.8 barrier.
Agree. I'm surprised some aren't shocked and praising Gabe for outkicking East and Smith in a tactical race. Remember, East is a WC finalist type who's a great tactical runner. Sure 4:10 is very slow, but not if you win and beat East.
well, he's already beaten smith in one pretty tactical race this year (and smith is a guy who has had a pretty long season). gabe and east are pretty comparable runners, in terms of ability. gabe is a very savvy tactical runner in his own right so i wouldn't say anyone should be shocked by this result. he probably also took advantage of being unknown/underestimated a bit by the brits; from how people have described the tactics of the race, they set it up perfectly for gabe.

???????? Chuck D said "ability" which is much different from the "performances" that you listed...one can have phenomenal ability but have not performed well...
that looked like an awesome race. tactical with a kick are always great.
