Bix 7 course?

I've run Bix 11 times.

My recommendation is be a little conservative the first mile (especially if it is a hot and humid day), as pushing too hard on the Brady St. hill can ruin your race. Once you hit the 1 mile mark, just let loose for the 2nd mile. Don't hold back. From there, I would almost treat it as a 6 mile race, because the last mile is a piece of cake. No matter how tired you are, you have to run a fast last mile because of the benefit you get from Brady St. hill.

My description above is when I've run my fastest time on Bix. Going out too hard the first mile is what has always killed me.

accept your fate. run the first mile in 9 minutes..then push the downhill second and third in 8 minutes. then just walk it on in.

The course doesn't look as bad as people have said it would be... I'm use to doing my runs up that hill at 6:30 pace. If it wasn't for the heat and the lack of me wanting to return to davenport, I would head out.

Yes, I just saw that as well- Uhl is from Des Moines and was one of the top Iowa high school runners this past year.

They are right now predicting a slight drop in temps for Saturday, into the upper 80s to low 90s, with weather breaking later that day. This may change. Race conditions will be warm them, but not horrid.

Thanks for the information regarding the course I like to be prepared by knowing the course especially hilly ones, that way I know how long they are and when to make my move. I know what might seem tough for some might not be for others, that's what happened at PeachTree people exaggerated about the secound half which I thought was pretty easy. If things go to plan, and now that I know where the hill section are I am aiming for 32:50. Thanks alot I appreciate this.

I've done Bix many times, maybe 20 or so. If you're not going up a steep hill, you're going down a steep hill or so it seems. That shrine for Nancy Kapheim is a nice touch. She did a lot for that race and Cornbelt.

Can't wait to go again this year. My wife loves the race too and likes to make me happy in the car on the way out. Lots of fun!

32:50....Holt Shite! That is top 3 overall money. I can't wait to see this. You would easily be the top American with a time like that. It is great have goals, it is a steep goal but still a goal. Good luck.....

32:50 is flying on that course.. ran 35:22 back in the day with a 5:20 opening mile split up Brady St., then 4:30-something to catch up to the leaders (women) and then continued to hammer around the turn-around and climbing back up to Brady St. before the descent home, which I could not capitalize on since my legs were trashed! 14th that year, 5th American. Typical 90-degrees.

One of THE BEST races in the US. Challenging course, conditions, and competition. Truly recommend it. Good luck!
