Solinsky gets UW coaching job.

sometimes the best hire for the job isn’t the “most qualified” or a hot candidate. It’s knowing how they’ll fit with the vibe and culture of the program. Byrne was the “hot hire” when Jerry left but he wasn’t what Wisco needed. Wisco needs a coach that can develop talent and make the school a destination for every top runner in the region again.

Byrne was an international recruiter that had coaches in the state steering kids away from the program because of his poor development record. Look no further than the UW football program anytime they’ve hired coaches that tried to go away from the “Wisconsin way.”

I think this hire will inject some positive excitement towards the program and get it back to the roots that made it a success.

Over half the battle in college is recruiting. And his resume will be great with recruiting. Then add in he's been apart of some good coaching staffs the last handful of years, and likely knows a lot himself from all of his experience. Ya I think he's going to do a good job for Wisconsin. They're pretty down right now, so probably not going to get worse.

No but seriously, about dang time this happened! Say what you want about Mick's successes but that guy was no good for the team spirit. Always getting international talent and running all the local recruits to the ground. I remember 2015 and 2017 when they didn't even qualify for nationals, and for basically any other year they always underperformed. Always "let's sit out of nuttycombe save our guns up for nationals" and then bomb at nationals. I have a lot of respect for a large part of Mick's training style but I'm glad they nabbed Solinsky.

Yep, he is the safety hire. He understands the play from his prior role. He will be the happy face of the program while behind the scenes the AD gradually defunds the program to restore the football team to relevance in the B1G. Sure, they will rely more on local recruits and will never sniff another national title in our lifetimes.

The reality is that, in many cases, it comes down as much to relationships and timing as it does to qualifications. Solinsky may not have been the obvious choice on paper, but he positioned himself well within the program and was prepared when Mic stepped down. Whether that translates into success remains to be seen.(i dont see it) He now has the opportunity to prove his critics wrong, and only time will tell how it plays out.
From Wisconsin's perspective, the hire also makes financial sense. He's likely a cheap option, can retain most of the current staff, and eliminates relocation expenses—all factors that help the athletic department save money!!

Wait until a top Wisconsin HSer asks, "how much NIL money am I getting?"
