For somebody who seems to act as though you dislike people doing stuff that is wrong, that’s a weird tendency to ask us to look at a source with blatant violations of data visualization best practices. I have no real reason to doubt their statistics though.

And that’s interesting, but you give us a source that shows information about acceptances and matriculate student students. In that, the matriculate white students have higher MCAT scores than the matriculated Hispanic students. In another source you’ve linked, for the 2015-2016 year, the matriculated Hispanic students have a significantly higher average MCAT score than their white counterparts.

That would still probably support a reasonable assertion against having a broad demographic category like race/ethnicity factor strongly in admissions (or perhaps not at all). But it seems that you are relying on a certain subtext about who does well on certain tests and why, and what admission standards should be as a result. And it’s my guess that you’re adopting an overly simplistic view of that. And if you think your opponents on this issue have damaging policies, it would be fairly easy for people to contrive a different kind of damaging policies by making similar overly simplistic inferences from your favorite data.

Your math and reasoning education could use some work. You don’t need a group to be on average 28x better to have a 28x higher admission rate. There is no simple relationship between those two numbers.

“I disclosed that I didn’t receive financial aid from the University of Chicago, and that I had a nice car,” he said. “I was the campus rich kid, let’s just put it on the table. And yet they considered me an affirmative-action applicant.”

On affirmative action in general, Chokal-Ingam said, “Racism is not the answer. … It also promotes negative stereotypes about the competency of minority Americans by making it seem like they need special treatment.”

“The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.”

If progressives insist on admitting a higher proportion of “oppressed” or disadvantaged students, and there might be credible reasons for doing so, they can simply add more spots to a matriculating class. There is a shortage of doctors as it is. But it is completely disgusting that they punish the kids who are from the wrong zip code who otherwise deserve to be there.

This is personal for me as I have a child who graduated from a top 40 undergrad with a perfect 4.0 in multiple stem majors, and scored in the 100th percentile on her MCAT, and spent four long years along with summers checking every single box and cultivating experience to corroborate her narrative, but who didn’t even sniff an interview from one of the elite, social engineering institutions.

What I would much rather see from progressives like Imperative Voice Real is less bitching and moaning and divisive, victimization politics and more active involvement in the communities they purport to support. Go move to Chicago and be a big brother and model fatherhood to these children who grow up without and tutor for free. Otherwise, shut the f up and stopping mandating at the point of a gun that everyone else pay for federal programs and NGOs that purportedly address these problems when they very much do not. If that is your gripe, then go do something about it. That is not my gripe. Instead I created a scholarship endowment for new prospective students at my daughter’s Alma mater. We can all give back.

But, yes, GPA from a reputable school and MCAT scores should be a basic qualifying “filter” to move applications from one pile to another. If your kid needs brain surgery, do you want the best or merely the doctor who met the quota who otherwise had no business being there? A 512 MCAT, while being good enough for a state school, has no business being at a top 20. Yet, there they are, generally with a full ride or full tuition too. Remember Jordon Trishton Walker from Pfizer? I believe he was Yale, then UTSW (don’t quote me on any of that). Boy did he represent well🤦‍♂️

I maintain students with lower grades and test scores are less prepared to do well in rigorous academic pursuits regardless of their innate abilities. It's revealing that libs want minorities to jump the line while opposing school choice. One of many reasons I'll never vote for a Democrat.

Annoying that when given an opportunity to rethink their admissions criteria, people are calling for a return to exams that test how quickly students can perform elementary school arithmetic as a proxy for some ill defined IQ instead of moving towards knowledge based exams like the rest of the world.

I've never driven a car in my life, but I'm a woman who wants to do formula 1 racing. Should a team be forced to sign me as a new race car driver or should I start at the club level racing 125cc carts regionally to build skill and prove myself? There's almost no women in formula 1, so the govt needs to balance this out.

Even more annoying that a kid admitted to a UC can’t do basic middle school arithmetic. That’s embarrassing and revealing.

Law Schools obviously have aome funny stuff going on when you look at LSAT scores:
