The reason Clayton Young looks older is much simpler than you may think: He hasn't shaved his beard. That's about it. Once he does that, he will look 10 years younger.

I'm surprised it took you 12 hours from the original post about anything BYU to post your snide old age post. Usually you're more on top of opportunities to be nasty. Hope you find peace.
I was watching his latest podcast about his training for Boston, and it was immediately apparent to me that he looked like he had aged quite a bit over the past year. I can't speak to his nutrition or his portion sizes, and I'm guessing that he works with a nutritionist so that stuff is pretty dialled in, but he just looked "older." I attributed that to the stress of dealing with a pretty significant injury.
120 mpw, a family, changing brands, and trying to figure out how to pay bills while injured is most certainly not the fountain of youth.
Running can 'age' you different ways. Even for a hobbyjogger. My friend picked up jogging in his early 50s. He does it an hour day. He is much leaner now but the face also looks aged.
Remember that guy "Sage" who always talked about veganism here and then Yuki posted an insta photo of himself eating a MASSIVE burger before winning Boston and then Sage got destroyed by a woman in some "ultramarathon" and the woman credited red meat as the secret to her success lmao. Deep letsrun lore.

Vegans are in denial of how the human body operates.
Especially during a marathon and ultras, you need to be fat adapted. The best things you can eat for that are vast amounts of animal products.
Additionally, fructose provides an additional energy source simultaneously alongside glucose. If carbs are deemed necessary, fruit is by far the superior choice compared to vegetables. Easier to digest, more calories, and provides fructose.
Vegetables cause nothing but gut distress due to high fiber contents. The other downside is it fills us up on very little calories when runners like this should be consuming upwards of 4000 calories per day. That is extremely hard to do if you waste space with vegetables.
Personally I would drink a massive amount of whole milk, eat a lot of fruit that agrees with your gut, and devour lots of cheeses, meats, and good sourdough bread.
I'm a little disappointed so many nutritionists are still leading people down the wrong path with regards to fibrous vegetables, especially athletes that receive zero benefit from them.
He's getting older, got a lot of miles in the legs. Running 130 miles a week on a 6 day a week cycle and has a bad back. He's going to run Boston on a limited preparation which is hilly course. I'd say he's tired, nervous and worried. Give the guy a break. It's not a modelling gig. I wish him the best.
I don’t follow him so I had to look at his instagram and he looks fine and healthy. The dude turns 33 in a few months…not everyone stays looking 25 their whole life.
He’ll DNF on Monday. The back issue will turn out to be a stress fracture.
With some of these road racers, they can avoid disclosing an injury to just show up and cash a cheque. It's like those nba/nfl guys with the guaranteed money portion, although the nfl guys can just sit out and not worry. If a pro maranthoner sits out, it risks future contract money.

Yep, and 33 is the age where many runners start looking “old.” Lots of inflammation and pro-oxidant stress being the nature of the beast in marathon running. I remember Ritz at about this age and he looked like he was 50.
But, it’s not too old to keep running really well. I hope Clayton exceeds expectations today. Great comeback and the dude is very transparent about his training.
He doesn't look old. The lines at the side of his eyes are due to sun exposure. I'm 38 and have no lines at all because I mostly stayed indoors for years. He has more hair than me, though.

He never went without a contract, so he had money the whole time. And the year making the olympics brought in a ton of money, he's doing just fine.... So stress from 'paying the bills' isn't really part of the problem. And people run 120 mile weeks with a family while having a full-time regular job. We just had 10 Americans run sub 2:10, Miranda and Murphy I don't know too much, they might have a regular job. Certainly Wiley at 2:10 has a regular job running ball park 120 mile weeks.
I’ve been following the sport pretty closely for over a decade, I was watching on TV when Clayton won his NCAA 10k, watched most of his big races. I’ve seen him in person multiple times. I also work in the medical field and examine ~10 people a day. It is my opinion that 2026 Clayton looks different, he has lost weight. He looks aged, a little gaunt. He has lost fat in his face. If I were describing him professionally I would say he has a malnourished.
His wife has been posting pictures of Clayton’s food, and I guess people have been responding to the effect that he isn’t eating enough. Today on her instagram she felt the need to defend the portion sizes. Interesting. I would be not be surprised if we see a great year followed by many injury problems.
He very clearly states his weight in his most recent YouTube video:
