Wow. Perfect conditions for a 1500 - 70 degrees, slight north wind that can sometimes swirl counterclockwise in Hayward and "almost" give a tail wind the entire way around the track. Regardless what a time, especially the last lap.
Might not have been the best move if he wants to win at nationals. The 1500m record has developed a similar curse to the mile record, where since Josh Kerr in 2018 the person who has broken the NCAA record in that season has not gone on to win the 1500m title (which includes Ethan Strand and Mario Romo Garcia who both ran 3:30 in the summer after their last season).
Kinda joking but still an interesting observation.
Hocker will unfortunately never win another US title at 1500m
Are we taking about the Cole Hocker who's 1500 PR is 4 whole seconds faster?
The same Cole Hocker who also ran 3:31 at age 20?
Too many fast guys now. Couldn’t beat Strand and Koech. Now there is a new man in Simeon. Hocker is likely to not even make the team anymore for Worlds. He has gone 3rd and 5th and he doesn’t have the fitness gap when he has to make the pace.

With the Oregon guys’ times tonight, the Big 10 now has the NCAA #1-3 times in the 1500. In addition, the current 10th best time in the conference is 3:39.85. Time to start practicing water jumps before conference champs if you’re a 3:40 guy
Nice race! Unfortunately, there are only about 15 fans there. Sad.
Can tell you've never run D1... I never once noticed fans in the stands, ever. Just raced, and I earned A-A honors.
Weirdo posting behavior. He's talking about how it's sad a great performance can't be appreciated by track fans. Way to find a way to make it about you (whoever you are. Could very well be lying. Definitely a narcissist).
Simeon was the GOAT in high school. I always thought he'd be an Olympian for us over 5000m... would be great if he starts at the 1500m... in any case, freaking Colin Sahlman (NAU) is going to run 3:30.68 to break the record. Short-lived...
Seems excessive to me but wow - closing in 53.59 is more than legit. Was paced to at least 1100 though
He was paced to almost 1100 but finished with a 53. Alone. You’re petty jealousy shows through in your attempt to downplay his run. The kid won by 8 seconds. Terrific effort.
Un frickin real. How many men have EVER front run a 3:31, much less front run a 3:31 and closed in 53? Let's get Colin, Simeon, and Trent into a 1500 together. One of those guys will go 3:29.
Im pretty sure the 1:44 guy will handle the giraffe off any pace. The Michigan guy is a little trickier off a slow and strategic, jumbled up mess of a typical ncaa 1500 prelim or final. IF they go balls to the wall in the final, Ill take Sahlman for a new record and the win over the field anyday. That's the o ly chance Birnbaum will have this year. He can't get in a tangled up mess like last year and he can't outkick the other 2. They can go 52 if he goes 53. Love to see him do it but he may be doing 5k/1500 double to help the team win without Alekna in the discus. Arkansas will have something to say about that though.
