I'm worried. I haven't seen any posts from her dad or Averi herself, or any race results, in the past two to three weeks. She missed an important meet as well, so I don't think she's simply resting (though possibly!). Hope she's okay.
She didn't run her regional meet, so I do not see her entries for the state meet next week.
the only visit she's posted publicly about on social media is to Georgia Tech. No offense to GT but that is miles below the schools you'd associate with recruiting someone with her HS times. What's going on there?
If I recall correctly her dad makes a weirdly huge deal on his social media every time someone takes a recruiting interest in his daughter, so might want to check there just to be sure
This. Schools won’t spend scholarship money on an athlete who will end up costing them more in health / rehab over the years and spend more time in the pool and elliptical than on the track. Plus it’s bad press for them when athletes have been visibly struggling for years.
" Averi Lowen (Bowdon GA) won the girls 2-mile with an entirely solo effort, taking a substantial lead from the gun and running 10:12.12 to win by 17 seconds. National title notwithstanding, she said she wasn’t putting too much stock into the race; it was her first since April 17, and all she wanted was to get back into a good rhythm. At this point, her main focus is on New Balance Nationals Outdoor in mid-June, where she’ll have a chance to go after her second national title. In March, she came agonizingly close to winning her first two; she took second in the 5,000 and the 2-mile at Nike Indoor Nationals."
The UA "national" meet... lame meet held in a terrible location to run fast. Nothing against any of the competitors. It is a disservice for IMG and UA to create this meet.
