Oslo (three days after Stockholm this year) pretty much always sees a WR attempt in the 1609 - If Jakob Ingebrigtsen is back in shape by then he'll almost certainly take a crack at it (also, it's before Kerrs planed Project 222). The world stage marketing value for just being in that race, maybe even partially pacing it, is bigger than running something smaller back in the US. Also the "see and learn" factor for simply being in or near a staged WR attempt for someone who might to go after several WRs down the road himself...

What? Oslo pretty much always sees a mile WR attempt? I don’t think so.

Seriously though, we are so lucky to witness this. I don’t know what Cooper’s career will look like, but he’s got potentially 15 years at the top of the world. I’m sure he’ll face injuries and setbacks and have bad years, but he really has such an incredible support system around him that I’m not worried. Everything I’ve heard from his coach and about his family makes me feel like I’m in a dream. You can’t make up a better scenario.
Now that I’m trying, I can’t even take a good stab at a prediction. Dude ran 1:44 indoors for a gold medal. If anyone else did that I’d expect a 1:41 outdoors, but this guy is 17, so that feels like heaping on unrealistic expectations on a child. But he’s already run 1:42 and has a gold medal. Idk bro I can see anywhere from 1:39-1:44 as completely reasonable based on his indoor season.

I hope he keeps progressing but 1:39 will never be accomplished by anyone in the next 20 years. But I will predict he eventually runs sub 1:41

I think it would be cool to take a crack at being World Indoor Champ, World Junior Champ and World Ultimate Champ. There are literally no other meets for him to do at the time and it’s on home soil. No obligation for sure but why not if he’s looking for another title.
