It’s a tough record to beat. But are we saying she needs to be a 400m/800m type to beat it?
I see Keely as pure 800m. She does pace the races to perfection normally and that’s where her strengths lie. I don’t think she’ll ever run 47/48 seconds for a 400m as she’s not a 400m specialist. Mu was definitely a 400m/800m runner therefore faster over 400m.
For what it’s worth I don’t think she’ll do it but she may get close. Keely tends to open her season strong but not really build from there. She is in fantastic shape though and mentally/strategically she is an amazing runner.
I just don’t think we should be solely focusing on her 400m times. She’s improved them and is the best 800m runner in the world. Without being crazy fast at the 400m.
Too many people out too much emphasis on Kratochvilia's 400 time. She's a different athlete. Keely draw on specific 800 endurance. Rudisha never ran a really impressive 400, never got below 45-mid. So I don't think Keely needs to get to near-400 WR shape to break the 800 WR. If she's running 50-flat with her specific 800 endurance, then she can challenge the WR. Odds are she doesn't get it, but I don't think being unable to run 47-point is specific barrier to that. Pamela Jelimo ran 52.8 a couple of months before she ran her 1:54.01 PB.
