The average person at the shopping mall including your long distance weekend warriors have no idea how :::insert pro runner's name here::: is. You'll get a few that are dialed in to the pro side of the sport but they're pulling for individuals because they like the content of their social media feed, not because they run for one brand or another, nor does that factor in to their purchasing decisions in any meaningful way.
Case in point...you'll get a lot of people who love seeing Des do her thing but there wasn't a rush to get Brooks shoes because she won Boston. Hell, you can get people who love training in Brooks shoes that will get a Vaporfly or Alphafly for their races, even if they can't tell you what pro runs in those shoes.
Asics has some great stuff going with their Metaspeed shoes and the Novablast and Superblast are great performance trainers. They'll be just fine without Clayton, and Clayton will be just fine without them for all the reasons listed in the post.
