Huge fan of Gunn HS and anyone who went there. Anybody remember CCS Titan Garrett Rowe?
He missed almost all of the outdoor season year. He's missing all of the indoor season this year. Yesterday he was at a high school promoting a recovery drink. He's gone from global champion to product salesman and influencer.
So let's say optimistically, he builds up and is able to really start training in April with most of this month building up mileage and his base and April incorporating more workouts. He certainly has a *chance* at European Championships August 10-16 if he is fit and in race shape by July. This would allow for a pretty straightforward DL qualification too as he could do Pre and/or London and 1500s are back-loaded with two in late August.
Perhaps the other timeline is running at Silesia and Zurich (both have 1500s) after a low-key race somewhere else. This could get him into the DL final if he can finish top 3 in both, and he'll need 5 performances to get into the World Ultimate Champs 1500. However, he's already in that meet's 5,000 via his Paris gold and could be content with doing the DL circuit for the 1500 and racing at World Ultimate in the 5,000.

I think it would be a huge mistake if he focused on the European/WA DL final championships this year. This might be a hot take but I think at his best (in Paris), he was capable of sub 3:26. But from 2021 -2024 he had a global championship to peak for. Jakob has to make a big decision this year on whether to focus on WRs (which IMO supersede any championship this year) or focus on getting golds (which won’t move the needle at all in his GOAT rankings). I’ll respect whatever he does but I’m pretty sure he knows that he ATLEAST needs one Olympic distance record to set a legendary legacy.

Well are you proposing he siphon out record chasing for non-DL meets? He could do special sections like he did in Paris for the 2 mile record attempt, and that might make sense if he wants to chase the 5,000m record. But for the mile and 1500 his two best times come from regular old DL races that were pretty much perfectly set up (Pre could've used an additional pacer). His 3000m the same in Silesia. You just tell the meet director to limit the field to more like 10-12 racers, and line up Jakob all the way on the outside with the two pacers escorting him (the inside for a mile one). Plenty of guys (including Laros, Nuguse, and Hocker) will be happy to run just behind him in a straight line. I think this could be achieved easily in Silesia or Zurich, and then give Jakob the opportunity to get into the DL Final. So while the 5000m record might be an either/or, chasing the shorter records isn't in my eyes. I agree skipping Europeans is probably a good idea if he's focused on records.

Honestly yeah, it might be a little cheap and gain criticism without any competition but there were plenty of inefficiencies with his Monaco run. First, he still was peaking for Paris so I don’t think his 3:26.73 was his max as I said already. He also ran the first 100m pretty hard (13.4), and the pacemakers could have done a better job on the 2nd and 3rd lap by pushing harder into that 55 second flat pace territory. I think he should plan ONE big WR race (Preferrably Mile or 5000m) in late August without any competition and just following the lights to the hundredth of a second (just like he did in that 2 Mile). He could set up maybe a few tuneups in July to sharpen up. The biggest problem is whether he approaches this fitness again and that’s likely a dream but I can only hope. The other problem is if he tries to peak for the Ultimate WC, i think if he does this he is 1) risking overuse injury again and 2) compromising his maximal ability in the 1500m which I assume he’ll attempt instead of the mile (just cuz he loves it more lmao). I think he should forget any championships this year but of course that’s just my fanboy opinion.
Your reporting is telling us about something that was posted on social media?
Yes,.
I was sent the photo days ago but wanted to make sure I had permission to use it. Not everyone is on facebook and friend with Dr. Saxena on there. I would estimate less than 1% of our audience was aware of the story as there were zero threads about it.
So yes, what I did was write a news article about a social media post so it would reach a wider audience.
It's what all reporting basically is. An NFL game happens. Reporters write a story about something that is already on social media, and on tv, etc. A race finishes. Someone looks at the result and reports on it.

Then is what JG just did super reporting or something? Does that make me a reporter when I start threads that are sharing a social post from an athlete? If so, where can I apply for a job at LRC. Now that I have the experience, might as well chase my dream job

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate you sharing this and am excited about the kings return. Just think calling it reporting is a bit of a stretch. Just because NFL reporters will do similar things, doesn’t make it reporting. Don’t think they would even call it reporting unless they are confirming a story/ adding more unknown context that isn’t known
I think aiming for the European Championships 5000m might be a realistic goal for 2026. I'd be concerned about any world record attempts, especially at 1500m or the mile. Maybe the Ultimate WC is too big of an ask? I'm sure it will all depend on how he progresses. Anyway, this is great news, and I hope he doesn't have another relapse.
Coming back from injuries is sometime a matter of motivation and drive. Jack Wrightman had multiple injuries and can back to a hair from being a double world champ, one of the greatest 1/2 marathoners and 10K runners , Sweden's Andreas Almgren has a history of significant injury setbacks that nearly ended his career, including chronic stress fractures (specifically in the tibia and navicular bone), torn muscles, and a torn meniscus. These injuries caused him to miss major championships, including the 2024 Paris Olympics, but he successfully transitioned from a 800m runner to a world-class distance runner, setting European records in the 5k and 10k.
And he came back to be amazing. With the way medical science is, I would place no limits of Jacob I. and this time off may in the long run be good for him, he will be fresh. I worried about burnout before, but that's not an issue now.
He's only 25 the same age as Cole Hocker. Jakob is only now coming into his prime. If he is motivated and inspired there will be more Olympic and World Championship Gold Medals and more world records broken, and in that I have no doubt!
He will become instantly relevant once he is healthy and has a few months of training behind him. As in, favorite for any 5k title. (Yes, I respect Hocker immensely, but staying with a fit Jakob over the final 1k of a 5K race is a different and higher challenge than he has yet faced.)
Jakob is not the favorite in a 5k over Hocker after a few months of training (at least not in a championship race, diamond league you could be right)

Yes he is, he’d destroy Hocker in a championship 5k no contest.
