We merged two threads into 1. 1 was called "Masalela celebrates and almost loses at the like" (sic) and the other "Masalela DISQUALIFIED for pretending to shoot Habz on finish line". The first thread was started before the DQ. We have added in a full video link to what happened yesterday here: https://x.com/gabyandersengz/s....
I wonder if the judges would have done the same to Lyles.
Either way, this just gave Thepiso an emotional bump to channel into a medal at the upcoming WC.
I think showboating over the line is generally ok, but cringe. So when Hocker did his 'sleep' or 'shhh' motions, whilst I think it's slightly lame, I certainly don't expect a DQ, particularly as they aren't directed at a particular athlete.
I think if Masalela had pointed with one finger at Habz then it's undoubtedly more disrespectful, but ultimately still ok. However, I think the two finger gun 'execution' move and pretending to shoot a fellow athlete in the head is a bit too much from a supposedly professional athlete. Like where would you draw the line? If he mimed stabbing him? If he'd started performing the 'suck it' sign?
Two things which make this extra lame:
- He very nearly lost, this wasn't a dominant victory (whilst it stood). I think it was a thousandth of a second.
i assume these guys know one another, and its play.
feelings, wo wo feelings, in my heart.
get your hands off the DQ trigger ref.
Habz looked pissed off and was shaking his head afterwards, in a way one might expect when someone uses you as a pacemaker for 1499 metres then pretends to shoot you in the head in front of an arena full of people.
But they let Hocker get away with the “put em to sleep” taunt and Lyles getting away with gunfingers at multiple meets. I didn’t even feel like Masalela was pointing it at Habz since he started the celebration once he had a stride on him.
Anyways we know how the double standard goes with African athletes on here continue on.

When I saw this yesterday, Jonathan Gault immediately texted me the Noah Lyles 2022 USAs celebration. Should he have been DQd for this?
As silly as it sounds, I think there is a difference between a one-finger and two-finger motion. To me, Lyles' one-finger motion (along with his smile) seems to be saying "HA got you!" and feels like pointing rather than an execution.
Introducing a second finger is unequivocal though, it's unambiguously a gun motion.
I don't like the gesture at all. In the NBA, that's probably a technical foul. In the NFL, that's probably a 15 yd unsportsmanlike penalty.
In track..., unfortunately our only recourse is to remove the performance entirely. I think Masalela should be penalized for this, but I don't necessarily think removing the entire performance is the way to go. A gesture like that, in the NFL and NBA, would unlikely to be an ejection and definitely not be a forfeit.
As for Lyles, we all know it's much harder to DQ for that in a US championship.
Charmin soft. Let them taunt; if athletes want to look stupid and risk getting caught at the line, that's on them. They're professionals, who cares.
Don't like the taunt? Run faster and don't get kicked down the final 60.
The second any of these guys or girls show emotion in a race, people jump down their throats. I enjoy some emotion and good, or bad, natured hate towards an opponent.
I'm all for allowing taunting IF they are going to allow the tauntee to throw hands with the taunter at the end.
Taunting is a pvssy move if you know the other person isn't allowed to do anything about it. Let people taunt with the knowledge that they might get punched in the mouth for it at the finish.
What's really "Charmin soft" is running your mouth when you know you're protected from any retribution.
Charmin soft. Let's see that same outspread angel pose for the 10,000,000th time 😂

- The field was extremely B-tier.
