In my opinion, she may have over raced. Looking at her 2022 race calendar, it’s clear she had an incredibly busy schedule. It’s understandable that after returning to racing following time off (in 2019), she felt eager to compete as she was improving and had a surge of motivation when they rediscover their love for racing. However, completing 5 marathons within 13 months, along with seven additional races ranging from 10K to 25K in between, leaves very little room for full recovery. While the drive to compete is admirable, that level of racing can place significant strain on the body.
I feel for her, because situations like this can unfortunately become a recipe for injury or burnout. No matter how advanced modern shoes or training methods are, the fundamentals remain the same: the body needs adequate recovery time, including at the cellular level. Even when you feel “okay,” deeper recovery processes are still happening.
At her level, it’s somewhat surprising that there wasn’t more intervention from her support team (coach or manager) to help balance performance goals with long term health (or at least I don't know). I truly hope she’s able to recover fully and come back strong.
