Then go out and do something about it, instead of posting your crap on here day after day, hour after hour. It is people like you that wreck this country - constantly whining and complaining, but doing absolutely nothing to find solutions. If the law is sick - change it. Or are you a beta that can't do anything.
I hate to name call but what a moronic post. You got a counterargument make it.
I oppose the coming attack on Iran for Israel. I guess I cannot say anything about it unless I can go out there stop it.
What a dumb comment

Between these state-assisted suicides, the infanticide allowed after birth, the state-supported burning of Christian churches, and the outright stealing of land from lawful landowners in the name of indigenous justice, I think Canada might be leading the world in human rights abuses. I am not sure how anyone can see any of this as ethical, moral, or "right." It is ghoulish. Western culture in on the precipice. I am not sure where it goes from here.

Right-wingers want you to do die slowly, painfully, and on THEIR terms.
Old with alzheimers? No dignity for YOU. You have no choice but to slip slowly into oblivion. Your kids' final memories of you will be watching you turn into a demented husk and cleaning your sh*t-stained clothes.
Terminal illness with chronic, debilitating pain? Suck it up and suffer pointlessly until you expire. Mercy is for cats and dogs, not humans. That's in the Bible.

Nope. Canada law does not require you have a terminal illness. Someone with severe cognitive issues should not be killed becuz they ask for it. They are not of sound mind

I dont think anyone has a problem with the scenarios youre describing. But that isn't what we're seeing. Healthy people in their 20's being encouraged the end their lives. The guy from this story basically had seasonal depression....tons of people have that and it can be corrected by methods that dont involving offing yourself at the encouragement of a doctor who stands to profit from you offing yourself.
This is an area where I, as a progressive, agree with many conservatives. There is something very twisted and evil about assisted suicide. Saint Pope John Paul II, who in his final years was suffering from Parkinson's. He could have easily and secretly chosen euthanasia. Instead, he bore witness to the sanctity of life and to the gospel he preached.
The only way to solve this is for Canada to become the cherished 51st state. No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE! America can no longer subsidize Canada with the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year that we have been spending in the past. It makes no sense unless Canada is a State!
This is so tiring; once again, Canada didn't euthanize anyone. Canada is not a person and does not have the ability to do this.
He was assessed by two physicians, deemed to be legally competent for his own medical decision making and requested MAID (not euthanasia).
Dr. Ellen Wiebe has personally overseen more than 400 assisted deaths since MAiD became legal in Canada. She is one of Canada’s most prominent MAiD practitioners and has also served in advisory roles for national euthanasia advocacy groups. Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) law does not require that someone be terminally ill in order to be eligible.
This is a huge part of the problem. These "doctors" can get rich off of these procedures.
MAID doesn't pay very well compared to whatever base specialty the physicians are coming from.

You don't think anyone has a problem with those scenarios??? Then why is assisted suicide broadly illegal in the United States? Even in the states that allow it, the rules are so stringent that most people with Alzheimer's can't qualify! No, there is a huge segment of America (right-wing Christians) that thinks death with dignity, regardless of the circumstances, is blasphemous. And so they sensationalize stories like this, insinuating that there is some conspiracy to coerce large numbers of young people to kill themselves, with the goal of keeping it broadly illegal.
What evidence do we have, other than the word of angry, grieving parents, that this guy was allowed to move forward with assisted suicide (a program with strict regulations that does not include mental illness as an eligible condition) with nothing more than "seasonal depression"? If it's a case of a rogue, criminal doctor, then prosecute. But I don't think we've got the whole story here.

the guy was far from being a "healthy person" though. He had T1D with only partial vision of one eye. And dude had struggled mentally since he was a kid, brushing it off as "seasonal depression" is disingenuous.

Spoken like someone who has never witnessed real end-of-days suffering. If YOU want to suffer and drag out your death, go right ahead, nobody will stop you. But this idea that other people should be obligated to spend their final days in excruciating pain because YOUR gospel demands it? Twisted and evil.

These weren't this guys final days. He had seasonal depression and some vision problems. He could have lived another 80 years. Multiple MAID doctors rejected his case. He found the one person willing to throw morality out the window and profit from his death
I am quite leery of MAiD for young individuals without terminal conditions (which this guy is). I feel better when older adults with irreversible functional decline / chronic pain choose to end life on their own terms after a fully lived.
With that said, this headline is pretty misleading. He's almost completely blind, has poorly controlled diabetes, and has been consistently seeking MAiD for quite some time (with his mother interfering in previous attempts). This isn't some knee jerk reaction of a guy who is sad in the winter. The underlying reason he is seeking MAiD is likely depression and not peripheral neuropathy (as attested by Dr Wiebe), but mental health can't be used as a sole reason as of yet.
