The Holy Bible, New Living Translation. It's translated into modern English and easy to understand.
That's great, God won't save you from the real world. Crime and Punishment is the greatest novel ever written about reality, which is what most of us live in.
Hands down best book is The Bible. I agree with another poster that there are tons of great books, but if asked which is the greatest, any answer besides The Bible is incorrect.
Bro one of the main themes of crime and punishment is redemption through faith you're just referencing crime and punishment after you read it in a highschool english class to sound smart
Loved both of those, and also give a second nod to Kafka’s The Trial as a candidate. But for me, personally, the best book I’ve read is Tolstoy’s War and Peace. It’s stupidly long, but had me deeply engaged from start to finish. Hate Russia, but love the Russian classics.

I've tried Dostoyevsky amd just can't get on with him. Tolstoy is much more readable - but I could still do without the 15-page essays on agricultural practice he inserts into his essays. If you like War and Peace, I can highly recommend anything by Jane Austen.
Obviously it's entirely subjective, but I think the best books written in my lifetime are the Wolf Hall trilogy by Hilary Mantel.
