What they're excited about with the prodigies is not just potential but potential to be the best in the world and to move the event beyond where it has ever been before. This happens rarely, of course. With Jakob, it was there and he achieved much of that, multiple golds and world records. With Mondo, he achieved everything. Both got more attention as pros than as young prodigies in the end. With Hobbs, 3:34 at 18, lightly trained, the expectation was that he would become the best in the world. That hasn't happened yet, but he is getting to be highly competitive on the world stage. He had a bit of a down year last year, started with a high this year, and then was injured. His results on the circuit outdoors this year will be telling if he is going to compete for medals outdoors next year and in 2028.
