China makes exceptions for people like that. She didn't give up her American citizenship. China basically just turned a blind eye

because she's a star in a country with over a billion people that has a lot of money (sure, per capita it's poorer than the US, but it's still relatively wealthy)

Unfortunately you are very wrong about this.

Like skiing and snowboarding, some blue collar types and people making it work. But surfing has a notorious crowd of trust fund kids (grown men)

Living in a beach property being able to surf all day mid-week usually means some (generational) wealth. Check out the Lunada Bay Boys.
