If this surgery gets rid of the Achilles problems permanently, it will be fun to see Jakob being able to train on all cylinders again without having to cut the heels off his shoes and whatnot
Jakob went to South Africa a few weeks ago but was only there for about a week. Traveling from Norway to South Africa takes roughly 24 hours, so it’s unlikely he would make that trip if he planned such a short stay.
In recent weeks, he has posted several photos of his Coros watch after workouts, but only shows average and maximum heart rate. It’s fairly obvious this data comes from elliptical sessions rather than running.
When Jakob is fit, his social media team usually posts weekly content of him running. That hasn’t happened at all in 2026 so far.
Conclusion: He’s injured.
? You clearly don't understand his schedule. In January he spends a week at altitude before going down to sea level to do faster sessions. Although there is other better circumstantial evidence such as the elliptical sessions, but that could just mean that he has adopted what many pros are doing now to stay injury free?
Everyone who dismissed the OP needs to apologize, starting with you.

Apologize for what? Where in my post did I dismiss the OP?
It's so silly that for some reason they stopped the 1500m at Monaco, otherwise Jakob would have the WR now. Coe was prepared to reset all WRs before 2005 jist to get rid of El G's dirty ones, but allowed some imbecile to decide no more 1500m at Monaco.
He ran the 1500m at Monaco in 2024, which is where he got his 3:26.73 PB.
He says in his new YT video that it wasn’t the achilles but rather the sheath surrounding it so it wasn’t a massive invasive procedure basically. But if it wasn’t so invasive, why didn’t he do the surgery months ago? Seems odd to do it in February after testing and failing for many months. Hopefully it recovers but you have to worry a lot about his WR prospects.
Reading the news it supposedly was due to a flare up some weeks ago.
Just wanted to add the I know of a couple of runners, one professional, that's had this procedure. And it's not that major. I know when anyone sees the world "Achilles" it's a red flag. But assuming it really did take care of the problem, this is fairly minor all things considered.
Here is the most important quote (google translated):
"He is now entering a three-week convalescence period before he can put on his running shoes. This has not been an easy decision, but in recent weeks he has experienced that the pain from the World Cup has returned, and he now feels that he can finally work long-term again, Skoland writes in a text message to VG."
He's was on his way to the U.S. not South Africa. He connected on to SFO not CPT. Unfortunately he's here for medical treatment. Let's hope for a speedy recovery and he's competing again by Summer.
For your own sake, I hope you're not a healthcare worker, and just happened to meet them in other capacities
My bet is his surgeon was Amol Saxena. This is the guy who operated on Rupp and other of Salazar's athletes over the years. He did foot surgery on me ~15 years ago and I haven't had a problem with it since. Removing some scar tissue doesn't sound like major surgery to me. It isn't like this was some kind of major reconstructive surgery. I would think this won't require a long recovery and Jacob will be back running in 3-4 weeks.
I like how transparent Jakob is on training and injuries. Wishing him a quick recovery to full fitness again. The sport is better with him than without him

You have to remember he still is just 25. This isn't a career ender. He will be back this summer
