Most become lame coaches in high schools and maybe D3 colleges. Because even if they had decent degrees they did nothing with them for ten years.

I will pay you $10,000 if you video yourself running 6 x 800 @ 1:57 pace or provide any proof that you’ve run those times or can prove you’re the head coach at “the college in San Antonio” the came in both 37th and 9th at D2 XC nationals
Sweet, can’t wait. Let me know when you post it and I’ll wire the money. 👍🏼 I wanna see 1) the uncut footage and 2) proof of location being a 400m track

Since all your other posts just got deleted. Why is the race you are claiming to run a 30:59 in showing you as finishing in 36:57 on the official results? Clock error I presume?
Get a job, continue to run for fun
Some go Al Bundy.

Disclaimer that I am new to following track and field. I have some idea of what careers retired athletes from other sports do pivot into, and some of course make enough money that they can do whatever they like or nothing at all.
But what options are pro runners pursuing? I don't think some mid level distance guy who is pro but not podium at big meets is pulling enough cash to just not work after age 30-something. Do a lot go into coaching? Or just leave and go back to whatever they maybe studied in college? Genuinely curious what the options are after seeing the threads about who is cooked for 2026, Athing Mu, etc etc
Thinking of guys I know, librarian, construction worker, running shop owner, several shoe company employees, doctor, coach, race promoter, teacher. John Walker opened something that was called a "tack shop," I think that's it, he sold things for horse riders. Walker also became a city councillor as did Dick Quax.
Better yet, become an entrepreneur (which you were not taught to do) and work for yourself instead.
What does Kara Goucher do besides commentate on races?
PS. Keep it on the 'crete.
makes sales of her books on autopilot on Amazon and podcasting

Keeps reminding everyone about her past performances and ragging on Al Sal. that takes all day
Typical retiree stuff. Go fishing, check to see if their Social Security arrived on the first day of the month. Snowbird in AZ or Florida, complain about the prices going up on everything, talking about their latest health ailments.
Walk/jog, get dressed to just run a mile, watch Perry Mason re-runs, go to the store.
i did find out right after retirement, getting in to coaching for 7 years, that was even more stressful and fulfilling than running itself.
Retired from that too
Volunteering at road races, RD at first then when too worn out from that, sign up for set up and clean up.
Then got tired from that
Perry Mason re-runs

Apparently you've never heard of the Lady of the Incarnate Mary's Trinity College in San Antonio.
