I'm gonna say one of the best pieces of cross training equipment for a runner is the elliptical machine. Great machine to add to your training for those of us who are more frail with the mileage, plus a great way to maintain basic aerobic fitness when an injury keeps you away from the high impact of running
I do a lot of motocross, bike stuff like cyclocross & road crits with a bit of mountain biking as well, and as much downhill skiing as possible. All of those balance things are helpful.
Engages almost all of your major muscle groups and is less technical than the traditional deadlift.
If the hex bar was so great you would see more of them. I never see any. The Olympic barbell ranks supreme. Bench, incline bench, deadlift, lunges clean and jerks, the list goes on and on.
