Not having the word “training” in the thread title and just the “partner” piece did pique my interest
Here is the actual AIU decision. Two German discus throwers were also suspended. All 3 said they didn't know it was illegal to bet. The 2 Germans were told it was illegal and tried to cancel their bets before Worlds but were untable to do so.

PS. We changed this title to make it more descriptive. It was initially titled, "First Ever Ban for Gambling."

I was surprised that Mantz / Young didn't get picked up on these rules at the Olympic trials. Obviously they didn't bet but they were clearly fixing the result.

1. How many people bet on it?
2. It's not the Olympics - top 3 is what matters. not your specific place.

It was a matter of time before the corruption of gambling, which is ruining other sports like baseball and basketball, made its way to Track and Field. Aurore Fleury was banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit for placing a bet on her training partner, Alice Finot, to win the European 3000m Steeplechase Championship. Finot won and Fleury cashed her bet.
Fleury placed a €2,000 bet on Finot and won €3,000 pounds. The AIU suspended her for six months and ordered her to make a €$3,000 donation to charity.
It seems that the quick buck temptation of gambling isn't just an American problem.

People talking about insider information don’t get it.
if you want to be a professional track athlete you can’t bet on track. Period.
I work at a management consulting firm. I can’t trade individual company securities. Too much of a risk of even the perception of illicit activity. Massive negative externalities on all my colleagues.
If I want to start my own company I can. Quit. No one is stopping me. but if I want to work where I do - no trading individual securities - it’s company policy. If I do it I get fired.
these idiots broke the rule and are getting off easy with a suspension.
This is such garbage. These companies provide 0 value for society and when someone actually wins, they make up a rule and ban them.
