That’s not my experience. Most people are friendly. If you’re talking about on here, anonymous message board, grain of salt. Move to a better area, maybe a different part of the country. Go to nicer places. I just finished my workout at the gym and am now sitting poolside, everyone is Peachy here.

I would like to live where you live. I am in the UK.
Living in Minneapolis I can say that what they call Minnesota Nice is a myth. Yes, Trump is responsible for some of the nastiness you refer to, but the vitriol of the left is just as ugly. There's signs all over with large print saying F*#%k Ice. I can't even drive my kids to school without driving by a half dozen F-words. And they chant and post all kinds of disgusting things. These are city leaders, teachers, etc. They're only nice if you agree with them. If not, they literally want you dead.
The simian roots of the human experience have yet to dissolve into non-effect so primitive behavior will continue with technological advancement being the sole change affecting personal interaction for the near future.
Unfortunately, the matrix and corporate greed have forced people to be preoccupied with comparison, also to be miserable and lastly, taught people that selfish behavior is advantageous.
I cannot believe that you are talking about “the matrix” in 2025
Drugs. Not the smartest move the baby boomers ever made.
Even for those of us who have never touched them, we're still governed by people who have, we still live in fear and walk on eggshells because of those who have, we're still losing freedoms and rights because of those who have, they have utterly destroyed society.
American society is mentally ill, and we have been for decades. Trump is only a symptom. It all started after the assassination of JFK. Many Americans, particularly the younger generation, simply threw up the hands and said, "What the hell? What's the point? Why bother?" Fuel was added to the fire with the Vietnam War, and the assassinations of RFK and MLK. The youth responded with drug abuse, promiscuity, violent protests and resistance to authority.
Tune in, Turn on, and drop out, man.
Someone’s taken a hit of Didion
I consider myself more of a Benjamin Franklin-Richard Brautigan-Tomas Rivera hybrid. But, Didion is cool.
Everyone seems so rude and hostile for no reason. It's unbearable. Not only that, it seems like a lot of people can no longer be bothered to do their jobs properly. It feels like they are doing you a favour when that's their job, even health professionals.
Rush...Limbaugh. Year and years ago all walks of life worked and fought together. Rush is credited with starting what we see everywhere now which is making a show out of telling lies and villainizing the other half of the country. He gave way to fox news and other far right and left outlets and then it became the new thing to rule only for your own constituents. Left on its own it would be problematic, but then we got social media where now everyone of those wackos has a voice. Think about all the right wing conspiracy theories that could not happen without social media and connection. The right wing took disagreement an elevated it to attacking your very livelihood and now we are all angry. Its understandable, we are all afraid of what's coming next any minute. It feels like our social contract has been broken by these people. You didn't see reagan or clinton among others doing this crazy stuff. Bush 2 was light weight but he had orders from the party to just randomly do the opposite of what democrats want to off set 8 yrs of losing to Clinton. Major over compensation. It sort of set both parties on this line of doing the opposite of whatever the other one wants and representing only 1/2 of the country. What we see now is the amped up version of that we didn't think was possible. The country would be 100 % better if the republican that won in 16 and 24 was Mccain or Romney. Boring and surrounded by experts is not bad.
Also, the new can't-do attitude. As you mentioned, people are now wired to first answer your question with why they can't help you, and only then do they consider doing you a favor and helping you. I think that's generational and not political. I am convinced nobody wants to make money. They literally hate our business!
It is 100% social media. It isn't one side, or the other side. It is everyone.
It used to be bearable b/c people were generally pretty nice to each other, but then realized they could take their frustrations out on other people anonymously. That proliferated and remained bearable because it was "just online." Well, now we have a generation of people who think online is real life. And, well in a way they are correct.
Social media will convince you to hate the people you love. Everyone is a Marxist or a fascist. But we know that is not true. Just try to get offline as much as possible and be kind to people. Ignore the noise and hate. Tune it out. Be the change. It will work.

Just about everyone these days is on social media & glued to their phones 24/7.
No one talks to each other anymore. No one wants to strike up conversations with strangers anymore. People are generally unfriendly & completely lost in themselves.
At my gym, virtually everyone is wearing earbuds & constantly scrolling on their phones. Some get so distracted in their scrolling that several minutes pass by between sets & they hog the machine/piece of equipment, etc.
I was standing in a long line at the grocery store the other day & everyone was glued to their phones like a bunch zombies only putting their phones down momentarily to complete their transaction.
At stop lights, I see drivers glued to their phones oblivious of light changing to green.
It wasn't like this back in my day before the digital revolution & behavior modification devices (smartphones). We talked we each other. We interacted verbally. We were friendly toward one another. Neighbors knew neighbors. People were approachable.
What's in store for the future? Will humans just be integrated into the digital world with a brain chip or something? Lol. Will the human race become full Zombie controlled by AI at that point? 🤔
I wish i had an income of 20 billion a year and could purchase a tropical island big enough to build a private society of about 200 to 300k people from the running community. Build an Oregon style track stadium with retractable roof and NB Boston Indoor stadium at the center of the city. All the high schools would have state of the art running facilities. Any felony level criminals would simply be banished from the Island. No homeless. Just everyone into fitness and running. Peace and serenity and running 😀
During WW2, most Americans were churchgoing Christians. Every decade since then, we have been increasingly indoctrinated to live the polar opposite of how the Bible teaches us.
Fortunately, young Americans are returning to church. Hopefully their example leads other generations to follow.

Some of the people with worst attitude are self-claimed "Christians."
And anyone who thinks rudeness and hostility only exist on one end of political spectrum is part of the problem.
We were once a high trust society and imported millions of people from low trust societies in the past 20 years. India, Pakistan, Mexico, central America, Middle East....all low trust societies.
We used to have as a country a dominant shared background, country of origin (Anglo saxon europe), religion, and with that shared principles and ideals.
Now we are so diverse there is very little connectivity in communities or people have moved to their own ethnic or family enclaves and don't interact outside that bubble. That's how Brazil or India operates and people there are generally awful to each other with no civic sense.
