There's no way she's doing this unless they already know she will contend for Golds. Her running style looks ideal. She will take Johnmila's record down one day, leaving Keeley in her wake. European heads up battle with Keeley awaits.
Might be an optimistic prediction but I think she'll run around 1:58-2:00 based on the fact that she's been in South Africa working on her endurance and has the indoor 500m world record.
1:58 was good enough to win World Indoors last year! That'd be an incredible season opener for any top 800 woman, and Femke's only been doing 800 workouts for 4 months.
I think she runs 2:02, good time that she can keep building on for outdoors.
This is a post which makes sense; if she runs 2:02 or better that would be a very nice opener and a nice spot from which to build. These people thinking she’s going to open in a time which won worlds last year (and the same people who will be pronouncing her a “failure” and saying she should stick to the 400h if she fails to do so) are just fools.

If you are, as your handle implies, “The Supreme Arbiter of All Knowledge”, it seems to me you would know that it’s “Jarmila”, not “Johnmila”. ;-)

I think she'll probably be right around 2-flat. Something I was reminded of is that Britton Wilson (also primarily 400/400h specialist rn) stepped up to run one 2:02 indoor 800 in 2023 while Arkansas. I'm assuming Britton didn't train much for that event specifically, so I expect Femke to run even a little faster than 2:02 given her recent focus on the event.
Last year at Metz there were 5 women under 2:02 (across two heats) two of which were sub 2:00. Gotta think Femke knows she is in that 2:00 range and will be competitive.
We don't know the aim of her racing yet. Is it to run a particular time? The race apparently has a pace. Or is it to trial a particular tactic? Considering only the other week Meuwly suggested she wouldn't run indoors at all, as she would lose valuable training for the outdoor season, Im not sure what to make of it. If she ran a 1:58 in her opening race that would be pretty wild. Put me down with others as closer to 2:0

The poster spelled it that way on purpose. "John" is a man's name. Now go look at a photo of her.

Even if she's not fully fit Meuwly understands it's probably best for Femke to get a feel for 800 realities instead of jogging kilometer after kilometer while he's alongside on a bike.
Maybe get jostled around a bit. Get Naakayi out there. Sabbatini. Too bad Meghan Hunter isn't available to swerve smack in front of you without a care in the world.
I have no idea what time to expect. Based on the jogging videos and Meuwly imploring Femke to run slower, I think she might be too conservative on her own. A relatively quick field with pacer sounds ideal.
What's her 800 strategy going to be? I would imagine she'll start out as a frontrunner like early Arop instead of a closer like her relay legs. Then maybe adapt like Arop if being run down late.

What does Femke Bol have to do with Britton Wilson? Femke is 10 times better
This is one of the storylines I'm most excited to follow. I don't think there's ever been a 400mHer at her level (World champion) that's moved to the 800 in their prime, so even more than normal, all of these season opener predictions are shots in the dark. Based on a cursory glance of her last 2 years, she seems to open up in great shape, so I'll assume she is now. I think she'll be right around 1:59-2:00 with a good race. If she messes up the pacing/tactics somehow (completely reasonable since she's used to running in lanes over hurdles), 2:02 would still be a great run.
She won't break 2:00 in her first race. Sub-2:00 is rare indoors. Only 10 people in the world did it in 2025, with Sekgodiso leading the way with 1:58.4. Werro only ran 1:59.81, Reekie 1:59.72, Maloney 1:59.07, and Duguma 1:58.97.
Too many people are anointing her the World Champion before she has ever even run the distance. If she wants to be World Champion, she needs to stick to the 400H. That will be her only chance of ever winning an individual gold at the Olympics.
There has only been one other woman to run the 800 that has also split 47.9
She only paced the first 400m of that race in 60 seconds. That doesn't give us anything useful that we didn't already know eventhough she was pacing an 800m race. She's amazing, but we already knew that.
