“First ever Xmas break away from family! NGL, pretty sad 😔. But excited to train at altitude to break 3:50 in the one mile distance this indoors!!!! w00t!!!”
I think Holt gets a bit of pull back as in people don't realize how talented he truly is. 20(+) years ago he would literally be in the league of Bob Kennedy/Todd Williams/ Paul McMullen/ and among the best Americans all time. The issue he is literally running unbelievable performance marks but he is doing it at a time in which American distance runners are almost if not the best country consistent with talent World Wide. I will be honest I am not innocent from taking Holt less seriously than his colleagues. I do hope he gets a sub 3:50 and 3:30.this year and also a Sub 1:45. I think his dedication is amongst the best of American Mid/Long athletes.
This is such an uninformed take it’s wild. You’re comparing Holt, who has made 0 global championship teams to guys that made multiple and had American records. You cannot compare today’s athletes with the guys from 10, 20, 30, etc. years ago like it’s a one to one comparison due to a variety of factors, shoes obviously being a big contributor. Put some respect on Kennedy, Williams and McMullen’s names.

This is the revisionist history people use to boost people they like. Those names would have run faster than Holt had they been running today. Go back far enough and I would have been a world record holder and gold medalist, so what? Stupid to compare people today to 30+ years ago to somehow make it seem like they're equals, they're not. Holt needs to get a job.
Lol. Zero chance he breaks 3:50 for the mile in the next two months.
Maybe he'll break 3:50 for a 1500. Maybe.
He ran 3:32 @ USAs in July.
3:32.95
He would have to a run a lifetime PR to break 3:50, a few months shy of turning 30.
Hope he does. Rooting for him. Nothing against the guy. But it is very unlikely. If LR could figure out a betting function on this site (to make some cash and get rid of the horrible ads), Holt would be at least 10:1 to break 3:50 between now and March 31. As is almost always the case here, commenters overestimate the potential of their heroes.

That’s an overstatement. You just listed three athletes who have won high caliber competitions. Holt has won not a single important race in his professional career. No, he would not literally be in the league of those three.
People rise to the level of their times. Holt benefits from the increased level of competition and times of his age. It would not be unrealistic to assume he would likely be slower if all the current world-class athletes competing in the US weren’t pulling him to faster times. So, it’s pretty safe to say Holt would not be a class-a stud 20+ years ago.
I’m saying this as someone who generally likes Holt and his story. I just don’t agree with that statement.
