When he announced it, I thought that the plan might be run a year in college, try to win the individual NCAA title and then go professional, while he’s still getting an education at Maryland.
I think it said he wants to study broadcast journalism, which Maryland has a very good program for. And alumni like Scott Van Pelt.
Also, if you watched his announcement, it seems like he’s extremely close to his family. Dad would be deployed in the military and mom was super mom. Makes sense either he would stay here or they would follow him.
When it came out, there were floating ideas that his coach would join the Maryland staff. I don’t know if he’d want to go to college coaching but this may be a way in for him. Be an assistant coach under Valmon for a year or two and just recruit the Bullis kids. Would make Maryland a better program than it is right now.
I was under the impression that Valmon was retiring sooner rather than later. His son was on the team while on the basketball team and his daughter, who ran an undergrad for Stanford(ncaa dmr champ with Willis and Whittaker), is currently a grad runner at Maryland. Thought maybe he might leave after she was done.
The sheer coordination between athletic programs, in addition to the support from the university president and governor, is astonishing and shows why this is a good fit for the future. There is so often internecine warfare among them, and all this for a track athlete. Then you add the fact that Maryland track is a serious option because it is coached by a 44s 400m runner and multi-time medalist. Maryland has also become a very competitive university. When I was growing up in the area, it was just a standard state school. Today it has outstanding departments and excellent students.
I know this probably had no factor but UM has one of the best campuses of any college in America. I had 3 older brothers and visited colleges with them and for myself all up and down the east coast, nothing came close to UM.
This is flat out wrong. Some nice buildings, but the campus is in a horrible area in Maryland. There are probably 100 campuses that are nicer.

Horrible is a grotesque overstatement on your part. Great area? Not really. Horrible area? Not remotely.
The DMV has elite talent that can compete with anyone.
Quincy Wilson and Jake Odey Jordan coming out together 2026 as two of the most elite in sprints and long sprints
Last year Tsedeke Jakovics (1:48) and Colin Abrams (1:49) outstanding 800 runners.
Maryland is a pretty damn good school too as for as academics.
If Maryland made a serious commitment to track and field, the fans here (i am from maryland) would go. Club track is already huge in this area. And Bullis speaks for itself.
How much under the table money are he and his family being paid for him to go to Maryland.
What's the figure? Because this is clearly the only thing that mattered here.
Wilson's family is very important to him, and he wants to stay close to them. He put his family first when making his decision. Maybe you don't understand?
Will Quincy keep his New Balance NIL, or is Under Armour somehow involved in getting him to come to Maryland? I'm assuming that he will have to wear UA at Maryland instead of the New Balance shoes.
