This young lady did not run in 1 single track meet last spring, and did not run in 1 single cross country meet this fall. As a parent of another teenage female who does NXN in Portland, you cant sit here and tell me this is fair. I want to know who is pulling the strings. Next fall, this same young lady will probably still be claiming she has an "extended illness".
I’m sitting here and telling you that Stanford giving a scholarship to the 4th fastest HS 2-miler in history, over your daughter, is more than fair.
In terms of her absence since Footlocker last year, why is this necessarily a negative? If anything it may show a lot of patience, wisdom, and maturity, putting her health before immediate continued success at something she loves. If instead she'd run herself into the ground and put her college (and beyond) career in jeopardy before it started -- as plenty of other top HS girls have -- certain people on here would be castigating her for that.
That was Barrett Dahl making those claims. He literally registered the account "Elizabeth Leachman" and started posting that crap about the military as Elizabeth. He also posted that she was pregnant a few times. He also registered multiple accounts as her father. Disgusting that the owners allow him to continue to post such lies about a girl who by all accounts seems to be one of the nicest most level-headed star runners I have ever seen be interviewed.
This is great news for EL. I was hoping to see her run this fall but maybe we will see her int he spring on the track. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing her go head-to-head with Jane Hedengren. JH is better right now, but don't forget, EL beat JH several times when EL was a sophomore and JH was a junior. Stanford is getting a good one.
"Some" talent? Stop already with your lies. She broke the 5k national record indoors and outdoors and was the only high school girl in history to quality for the Olympic Trials n the 5k. That is well beyond having just some talent.
Leachman didn't get any scholarship money. They helped her get in, however. So on the flip side, not sure if anyone can remember someone as good as Leachman not getting any kind of athletic aid.
Beth has had some pretty serious health problems and it's a coin flip if she'll be able to regain fitness and actually train regularly again. I can't really go into the details of her situation (not my story to share). But there's a reason she's been off the radar for the last year.
With all due respect, since when does Stanford give out full-ride athletic scholarships to athletes who haven't participated in their sport for over a year?
What's interesting is that we often see on this board that runners should choose colleges for athletics over sport, the argument being very few US distance runners 'make it' to the top.
Yet this thread seems really disappointed she's going there. What am I missing?
With the season just starting, and Milesplit results being lacking... and Tully only doing a few non-NY meets a week, I decided to post a few top 10s from the Austin area and what their Tully ratings should be.These are based...

Crazy fake coach Barrett Dahl, known as "the430miler", is posting under many different usernames to make it seem like many people are upset, when it's really just one guy using a VPN to make many posts and many downvotes. He would complain about her decision no matter what it was, just because he likes to complain about her. What can I say, he's totally nuts!
