30 years ago they were one of the better tasting fast food options. Their quality slightly went down and new options popped up and it’s not surprising they are struggling.

Don't forget the Animal Burger. Fries "extra" well done are my wife's favorite. There are certain special that have never been on a menu, but have been available for decades.
While Wendy's is closing locations, In 'N Out is going through a massive multi-state expansion.

The death of Dave Thomas in 2002 has taken a toll. The dude was a cultural icon. Wendy's employees in the 90s were always worried that Dave might stroll into their store and put the smack down. If you wanted a job where you could be lazy, you went elsewhere.
