She definitely won’t be pulling any teammates but there will be fellow sub-15 5000m runners in the race.
How hard will she have to go to try to drop Doris? And does she risk blowing up?
I don’t think she will try to drop Doris. She has so far shown an ability to pace herself to a desired result, and so she will probably just try to run to that, and Doris would best be advised to just hang as long as she can.

So then the question is, if/when Jane runs to form in her ‘biggest’ race of her career, and there is someone still there with 1000m to go, and then with 800m to go…how does she handle that. Will Doris try to beat her, or will she concede?
I think many are overlooking the frosh from Oregon. She is cruising fast times. She will be able to hang with Jane.
On the contrary, LACCTiC says Cherotich’s best TiC this season was her 15:15 at the Bill Dellinger, whereas, Hedengren was awarded a 14:42 at the Big12; that is simply a HUGE chasm between those performances.
Cherotich ran 19:31 at conference while Jane ran 18:29. Pretty big gap.
Umm... Tuohy in 2022. She could have stayed with Valby from the start, but chose to pull her teammates instead.
Tuohy did win the race and was correct in thinking Valby would comeback. Until she broke away, she ran at the front of the chase pack and was not pacing any teammates.
Valby did not "come back." She ran an even pace. Tuohy ran a huge negative split to hunt her down. (She ran 3:17/km for the first 4k and then 3:09/km for the last 2k.) It would have been so much easier if she had run even.

With the way Hedengren has been running, I find it difficult to believe Lemngole' could match her. Their 5k PRs are only 5 seconds apart and a younger athlete will have much more upswing potential.
Still, I HOPE that the race is close and that it ends up being an exciting finish.

You’re not creative enough to use your own handle, instead of trying to fool others and yourself that you can post as well as I can?

And the "pacer" usually stays ahead of runners they are trying to pace. You don't pace others from behind.
Tuohy was pacing about 20 runners so how could she specifically helping any teammates? I skimmed through the video and most time the NC State runners couldn’t even see each other. Whether Valby ran an even pace or not, Tuohy’s strategy worked well. Having a teammate in the pack doesn’t make it any easier to keep up.

This was a good take, but I downvoted it since you copied my handle? Why do that? Come up with your own handle, and let your posts stand on your own merit.
I was curious about the biggest gap between 1st and 2nd in the championships for the men. Not sure what it is but in 1976 Rono set the fastest time record in 28:06 but he was only 10 seconds in front of his teammate, Samson Kimobwa, who would set the 10,000 WR later that year only to be broken by Rono the following year. Malmo would finish 20th that year.
Maybe 5. NCAAs is a different ballgame than she’s ever been in before and she’ll likely be pulling some teammates for a while.
Yeah, this. The goal for BYU is the team title.
Cross country is an individual sport. The lowest team score is when each individual performs their best. That means 1 point is better than her helping teammates and scoring 10 points when in reality the teammates wouldn’t run any different if she helps them or not.
