The weather hasn't changed in my lifetime, but I'm only 67. Using "climate change" for not setting a PB is a lame excuse from a lame hoax.
Coach FLINT
The weather has changed significantly in my lifetime. But the fact is that the earth is so massive and the forces of geophysics are so powerful, that the earth is going to take care if itself and we have no say in the weather, regardless of how many cars we drive or oil rigs we operate.
I dont profess an environmental science class here. Every one of my classes is a biology course. But global warming questions continues to come up in lectures. Making us all sign a bill that agrees to stopping this industry and that industry is bullcrap. Ronald Johnson and Weldon Johnson probably have family ties to the oil and gas corporation. Its not to them to impede on that industry when they are just innocent descendants of the industry.
Because I have a masters degree that allows me to profess at the college level. Thats why.
P.s.- im also not allowed to stand up there in front of my students and endorse any political candidate. Although its not illegal, its unethical at our university and most all universities that practice decency and common sense. Berkeley needs to be SHUT DOWN.

when you ban my IP you're wasting your time not mine
I'm no expert in climate change, but have a good dose of common sense. If it gets a little hotter, couldn't the races just move back the race a week in the fall or move it up a week in the spring?
Tell me you don't understand climate change without telling me you don't understand climate change.
WTF are you rambling on about? So you "profess" at some small private religious college and don't teach facts. Good for you, you are doing your students a disservice. Also Climate change is not political.
There is a race one state over from us that is popular and well done. It's held every year around 9/25. There have been plenty of recent years when it's too hot for best performances there and I keep on hoping they'll move it back a week or two, but the event seems cemented that weekend. Sucks! BTW it is NEVER too chilly that morning, only decent chances for too warm anymore.
Look also at MCM. There have been many years when it was damned hot the day of that race. Why they don't move it back I have no idea.
The best weekend for races should average 40-45F-ish for a low, with roughly equal chances for it to be a little cooler or a few degrees warmer. In the Eastern part of the US it tends to be fairly dry in the Fall, so aim for that optimal temperature for a low and set the dates that way. Doing so would move many of these Fall races back at least a week or two.
Why do race directors refuse to do this? Makes no sense.
There are only so many weekends for races And events. Sometimes the race isn't the only event looking for permits - tris, parades, festivals, whatever else. A lot goes into lining everywhere up for that weekend. Could a huge race like MCM move weekends if it wanted? Probably, but it would be a headache and who knows if the weather would even be better- it might be cold in Nov.
I would have thought that women on average have more body fat and so can handle colder temperatures better. I'm male and hate running in cold weather (my ideal temperatures are 80F for a 5K, 70F/10K, and 60F/half), but I guess that's a sample size of one.
You can make that a sample size of 2. Both things can be true: (1) women on average have a higher internal body temperature than men, and (2) there's far more variability in these things within sexes than between
Why would you bother to post an article that’s obviously just more climate change propaganda?
This site is routinely used to amplify stupid stuff "leftists" say and do as if that makes the actions of "the right" any more sane and coherent.
If Runner's World says that climate change impacts your marathon PR then the POTUS calling climate change a Chinese hoax seems less batsh1t crazy than it really is.

I would love to see races shift due to climate. Here's the problem... and I'll use a very prominent runner favorite here...Meb Keflezighi....I don't know if he still does but a few years ago, he got the rights to the Carlsbad 5000....
The key here is that the course changed because of permits... much like the San Diego Rock n Roll marathon changed because of permits.
You can TRY to move a race, but when you do...it may shift the course and the streets available to you
In 2007, the San Diego Rock n Roll marathon finished at MCRD. In 2017, it finished in downtown San Diego.
I had trained for a long time trying to combat the usual hills on 163 in miles 8-11 so I could finish quicker. Imagine my surprise when a course change put the 163 in miles 20-23

As a former Card I have no love for UC Berkeley but it is an outstanding academic institution. You could not even hack an undergrad course at Berkeley.

You don't have a college degree of any kind. If you did you would have proven it. If you did you would have proven it by now.

No common sense either.
You act like a week guarantees the precise temp you want?
IDK....more warm weather would extend my outdoor running season in the northeast, keep me in better shape, and arguably give me a better spring season, and mitigate some of the loss from winter.
