I see Tri a lot like Skiing. There are a few countries where it is a big deal and there is a culture around it. (Nz, Aus, maybe Norway now).
The majority of the world isn’t focused on it which is OK. I think the cost barrier will always limit the talent pool.
The Bike, gear, shoes, facilities needed, travel etc. it’s $20-30k to get to the starting line.
In the US we are seeing lower and lower participation rates in expensive sports like hockey. I imagine the same will be seen in tri.
the top athletes are extremely good but there will be limited parity. This Norwegian squad has a ton of funding behind them. I bet more was spent on these 4 than then entire USA Triathlon budget.
