I've come to believe most just really don't understand athletics and/or that it's not just recreational. but honestly, maga has so poisoned the discussion with their attacks on trans people, that it's hard to have any sort of nuanced opinion on this stuff. hence the interview clip.

But I'm writing to vehemently disagree with the part I bolded. I don't think MAGA poisoned the discussion at all. Far from it. It was the other way around. The left VIOLENTLY went after anyone who didn't agree with them. JK Rowling was ATTACKED, called a bigot, boycotted, etc. The swimmers at Penn were told to seek counseling if they didnt want to share a locker room with a male. They were forbidden from talking to the press.

Like of ALL the sports in the Olympics you could make a case on that have for example, a judging system where you could make some kind of rational case that a female gymnast, or diver can has an advantage because of some feminine attribute that pertains to an arbitrary opinion based score, she gives the one freaking sport where not a single womens Olympic champion could win a title at the California State High School Boys championships.
Maybe the best female track athlete in the world - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, would not have even made the California (forget National) varisty boys 400m final this year as the slowest qualifier was 47.72. In the boys 800m you needed to run 1.51.81 just to make the damn final as the slowest qualifier and that is a just under a second and a half faster than the womens WR which was run by a women on so many anabolic steroids she resembled a high school boy.

This is problematic thinking. The discussion about trans individuals competing in sports should be an entire different topic. Obviously more testosterone is an advantage. However, MAGA has poisoned the discussion on trans individuals overall. How does adding pronouns to email signatures affect you in any real way?—It doesn’t. The bathroom issue is ridiculous, it’s a bathroom. Trans people are not molesting kids in bathrooms. Pedophiles are an entire different subset. MAGA politicians have gone as far as to say they want to eliminate trans ideology from society. This is incredibly discriminatory and evil. We’re talking about people here! 99.9% of trans people don’t take part in competitive sports. They’re just trying to live their lives how they choose to.

I should have clarified that when I said Maga poisoned the well in this conversation, I was talking about their attacks on trans people more broadly, not limiting it to sports. They have reached the point where they want to label trans people a violent extremist group.
I am well aware of the excesses of the left. When I tried to reason with people on leftist social media about the sports stuff, I was put on an anti-trans list, so it's funny that I am on here trying to reason with you in the opposite direction. But also I've reached a point where I believe that trans people are so under attack right now, that I don't believe you can have a coherent conversation about the sports stuff.

Is it really that big a deal? Most people who aren't serious sports competitors don't know much about sports, just like most people who've never played professional music know what that takes. We tend not to know too much outside what it is we have experience of. This easily applies to sports. How many distance runners know what it takes to be a great skier, football player, tennis player or golfer? I'm not surprised a would-be politician doesn't know the difference gender (sex) still plays in top level physical sports. It is pretty naive perhaps but not exactly fatal. I see plenty of posters here who haven't a clue what they are talking about when it comes to politics, history, science and culture.

Her main point seems to be "We don't know enough about transgender peoples athletic ability to say for sure if they should be allowed to compete or not". I don't agree with that, I think we know plenty already, but that claim isn't INSANE. Saying women could beat men in the 100m dash is.

I think you'd be surprised at how little the average non-athlete actually knows about athletics.
You see this every time when a generationally great female athlete comes around in any sport. The number of people 100% seriously suggesting she play in the NBA is crazy. She could probably be a solid role player coming off the bench on a good D3 team.
I can't stand these comparisons because they completely diminish how incredible she and other female athletes are. We don't compare Usain Bolt to Cheetah's. We don't compare Michael Phelps to Sailfish. We don't need to compare female athletes so male ones. The two are separate for good reason, and we should appreciate both for what they are.

It really is impressive that she managed to pick one of the closest to truly physical sports there is. There is obviously technique to running, but 99.9% is just strength/endurance.
She really could not have picked a worse sport. Women still would not have a chance in Weightlifting/Wrestling/Boxing, but those do at least have weight classes to put them on a slightly more level playing field, and technique is more important than strength in Wrestling/Boxing so an incredibly skilled girl could beat some brute of a guy (we've seen incredibly rare cases of women winning state titles in lower wrestling weight classes which is pretty awesome).
Track is like the one sport where no matter how hard you squint, or how perfect of a scenario you can dream up (short of everyone else getting injured/false starting) the girl is not going to be competitive...

Ironically, the male/female advantage holds true in archery as well.
Men's longer arms and strength help them. The men's WR is higher than women's as a result.
