How the hell is Rupp going to improve from here? Galen will be 40 next year. This was it for him.
u need multiple builds to get strong enough to crack a real solid thon brah. this was build 1 after he reset from surgery. he has many more if he can stay healthy before LA, pulling for him brah.

I monitored the race app today. it appeared that he ran with the second “American Pack” the whole race and was passed by Ryan Ford (only) near the end. A nice performance.
Let me guess. He had a rabbit in his pants? What else can he do? Galen will never break 2:10 again. This I would bet my life on.
That's a stupid bet.
I'm guessing Galen tries to hang on until the 2028 Trials.
He can still make more money running than anything else.
If I'm him, I lay low in 2026, do some half marathons, Army 10 Mile, etc.Let the body recharge a little.
2027, try to pop a fast marathon at Valencia/ Amsterdam, or even Berlin. If he can run a 2:08 then he gets his name back in the mix.
2028- Make everything about the Trials. Go out at the back of the pack and see what happens. If Galen makes the 28 team that would make him a 5 time Olympian. Id give him about 50-1 odds at best but I'd like to see it.

So being 42 in 2028 is only going to help Galen I imagine? What a world we live in.

Kipchoge was still running well at 55, so I wouldn’t bet against Galen.
Nice to see the guy have a solid race. He’s been through a lot but clearly loves running/racing. Talent does go away. Hoping he has a few more good ones in him.
Talent does not go away, as he proves. But it does inevitably fade when aging. Many young high quality runners and marathoners would love to run that time.

Bekele was literally 42at the last Olympics. He would of easily won if he didn't have an injury. He basically just jogged through an injury just to finish and was less than 6 minutes off the leader. Would be an easy win against a weak field. He would manage 15 seconds per mile faster without the injury.
Rupp isn't Bekele, but still can easily make another Olympics if he wants.
I remember watching Galen win the Oregon XC State Championship as a senior in Eugene, Or on the campus of Lane Community College. It was a rainy day, but his stride looked so effortless. I graduated high school one year prior to him, and so watching him still be competitive at his age inspires me to keep pushing for PRs. I'm 41 but I'm still setting PRs in all events past the 5k. Great job Galen!
