so the general consensus seems to be that the '05 are better than the '06? the reason i ask is i need a new shoe,i've always done real well in miznuo's(wave rider right now), but with the pegasus 05's on sale everywhere, it might be smart to stock up. are they real narrow in the toebox(ala the hayward), or being a more cushioned shoe, do they have more room in the toe(like the mizuno's)?
NIKE butchered the Air Pegasus back around '91 or so. I have posted on this before. Buying NIKE is a waste of money.
The problem with the 2005 is that there is a design flaw in them that can cause the forefoot air chamber to pop after not too many miles. I dunno what everybody's problem with the '06 is, I haven't heard any complaining about them from the people I know who run in them. Its true, they are running very wide for Nike, but I don't think theres reason there to make the 06 a waste of money. They work just fine as far as I know, and they don't have the popping problem either. Not the greatest pair of shoes, but certainly better than the 05s.
P.S. Whats wrong with the new Zoom Elites? I like them quite a bit.
I took one look at it in a shoe store yesterday and said "NO WAY!: Its way too klunky. What is Nike thinking?
After having gone through 4 pairs of 2005 pegs in two months and experiencing a popped front air unit in EVERY PAIR. It's good to hear this. I've been wearing the pegasus for 7 years now and it's my only trainer, but this debacle with popped air units is making me want to give up on them.
Agreed. I loved the 04. Best year to date. I had some amazing training when I was wearing those shoes. Wish I had stockpiled them.
I haven't had any problems with the 05 popping but I have no doubt that others have had issues. I guess I was lucky but I have to say I have almost burned through my first pair of Nike Pegasus 06's and honestly will not buy another pair. Its extremely cluunky as other have said.
for me the cushioning was fine but it seriously felt like a brick on my foot. It just feels big and heavy on your foot. I noticed on thei Nikerunning website they are really pushing the new 06s as if they made major improvements. What a joke.
I guess I will continue wearing Zoom Elites exclusively even though they wear out too fast.
I have two pairs of the 05 PEg in the rotation. HOw can you tell when the forefoot airbag is broken?
Buy the Supernova Cushion--way better than the '06 Peg! They remind me quite a bit of the older pegs, 2003-2004.
Does the shoe make a noise when you step or push off?
For myself MIZUNO wave riders are the shoe of choice with the ASICS air cumulus second. I tried BROOKS as was suggested by another poster but found them too flat for my high arches, but the forefoot fit was surprisingly comfortable in terms of being wide enough, to give credit.
I miss the ancient and honorable NEW BALANCE 320's. Those and the equally ancient and honorable ETONIC KM STREETFIGHTERS were substitutes once Onitsuka became ASICS and the G-9 marathon flat disappeared from the shelves.

I have only worn the 2000 model and if I can get my hands on another pair (or 5) I will. It's the best shoe I've ever worn and it held up until probably 750 miles or so.
I hate having to change to a new model/year. Is there anything bad about stockpiling shoes for months, or years? I mean, if I have the cash, is there anything wrong with buying a few dozen pair of a shoe I like? Tnx.
This is the 2000 Pegasus. One of my favorite shoes ever. Should've stocked up when they were on Nike ID!
I ordered a pair, but they were on backorder, but got a pair for my son. He agrees with all of the negative assesments. I am returning them. I got the Zoom Haywards. Love 'em!
I bought a pair of 2006 about a month ago in the yellow and gray pattern and I disagree with all the negative reviews. I've put in 300 miles so far on this pair and I love them. They don't feel to heavy or stiff and the new sockliner's comfy. I just ordered another pair.
I really didn't see a big difference between the 02, 04 and 05. But the '06 feel really stiff and firm. Not at all like the earlier models, which were much more cushiony.
You're not very bright on the fits of shoes are you? Say your size is 10, try on every 10 in a running store and see how each fits differently.
