i mean that sounds alright until you release that was an insanely fast course and that the ucla men's team would've gotten last in the gold race in which their girls team almost did. unbelievable that a 24:07 average still gets you cooked in 2025, running inflation is absurd

The AD made them reduce the roster. Cutting people doesn't help Carlson at all - it makes people pissed at him and maybe some of those athletes could have been good with a year of training.
Colorado only has one african between the women and men's teams. Judging by their names, they seem to be mostly American and European kids.
He deserves 100% more respect than the coaches that solely relay on 27 year old Kenyans.
Those athletes were cut within like a week of Carlson on campus, no? Why would the AD wait that long? We hate OSU more but Carlson isn't exactly knocking it out of the park considering how good the recruits he's gotten are.
How would the AD know who to cut before the coach got hired? Obviously the AD comes up with the number and then tells the coach he hired to narrow it down. The AD was putting more resources into football and Deion Sanders, sacrifices were being made elsewhere.
Carlson took over a program where the 80 year old previous coach and former athlete that he married got FIRED for inappropriate behavior. He inherited a mess and within a couple years has them poised for top 10 in the nation with only 1 kenyan on the roster.
Oh and by the way, every other power 5 school had to start cutting their roster within months of Colorado doing it.
LRC's least favorite teams Colorado and UCLA actually had really great races today.
UCLA men won the Black race at Gans Creek with times of 23:53, 23:55, 23:57, 24:21, and 24:27 for a team average of 24:07. This is pretty good for a very young team, especially considering Brosnan left them with no good recruits (Cantu was Brosnan's best recruit and he was their 6th runner with 24:46 as a junior).
Colorado's men and women had INCREDIBLE races and placed 3rd in the Gold races at Gans Creek. The women's team average was 19:59 with 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and a junior in the top 5. They were ranked #26 nationally prior to this, and they will rise to probably just outside of the top 10. They were close to NAU who is ranked 8th in the NCAA. Probably #15.
The men averaged 23:06 with 1 sophomore and 4 juniors with their #6 and #7 runners at 23:20 and 23:25. Colorado should be ranked top 10 in the NCAA after this because they were really close to UVA who is ranked 6th. By the way - UVA's entire top 8 are seniors.
I've got nothing against UCLA, but there were 25+ teams in the gold race that averaged better than 24:07. I think you're overreacting to them winning the JV race.
Brosnan was there for 1 season, hired in August, way late for recruiting. Not sure there was much chance for him to recruit for the future. Especially since he left anyway.
Move on from Brosnan already. He did a great job on one year. and this current coach has been there for going on three years has yet to do a damn thing.
This has got to be either Coach Ferris or Coach Hayes in damage control mode. Mireles, Staggs, and Herold all had their breakout seasons under Brosnan. And this isn’t to glaze Brosnan but you can’t act like they were all already at their best before he came. Also the punishment was extremely lenient only affecting the woman’s recruiting for ONE WEEK don’t be acting like they had to overcome some terrible punishment lets be real. You’ve got to see it for what it is UCLA is still awful and even though 24:07 of a faster average than previous years EVERYONE ELSE IN THE NCAA IS GETTING FASTER!!! so in comparison the men’s and women’s teams are still mediocre and bottom of the division.

Amell only ran for CBA in the 2018-2019 school year. He went to many different schools in his HS years
I think the AD at UCLA has a problem picking or keeping good coaches. Their football is the worst we have ever seen and cross country is down right pitiful. If the UCLA coach thinks today was a good performance in XC then he or she should be fired.

Coach Ferris has managed to drag UCLA distance further downhill every single year he’s been in charge of distance( it’s not Hayes like some assume ), and anyone watching can see it. He tries to pass himself off as some sort of science driven coach, constantly talking about lactate levels and threshold training, but it’s all smoke and mirrors, he doesn’t actually understand the physiology he’s preaching. The result is monotonous, one dimensional training that leaves athletes stagnant or broken down. My former athlete who ran for him described the experience as miserable. There is no real development, no sense of team identity, just empty jargon and long mediocre sessions. To make matters worse, he constantly brings up Letsrun to his team, like online chatter matters more than actual performance on the course, and he even seemed proud of finishing outside the top 25 in the open race, which is an embarrassing standard for a Big 10 program. A quick look back at his stints at Iona and Wake Forest shows similar red flags and troubling patterns, nothing in his history suggests he knows how to run a successful program. Under Ferris, UCLA hasn’t just failed to improve, they’ve lost recruits, alienated athletes, and turned what should be a respectable distance program into a complete non factor. Instead of building a competitive culture, he’s created one of confusion, low standards, and wasted potential and it shows in every result sheet.

Exactly, saying Colorado did “amazing”makes little sense, they’re a legitimate program with history and results. I’d say they did fair not amazing. But calling UCLA’s performance “amazing” is laughable. They’re finishing in JV races, placing 28th overall, and somehow that’s being spun as progress? That’s not even good for UCLA, that’s embarrassing for any Power Five school. At this point, pretending those results are positive just lowers the bar even further. It’s like giving a standing ovation to a sinking ship just because it hasn’t hit the ocean floor yet.

The UCLA website lists Hayes as the head cross country coach, but it seems like she’s handed over most of the actual coaching duties for the distance group to her assistant, Ferris??? Either way, whatever setup they’re running clearly isn’t working.

I’m pretty sure the UCLA coach started the thread and it totally backfired on him because otherwise, I can’t imagine why anyone would seriously claim UCLA did well. The only other explanation is maybe a Colorado coach posted it and just threw UCLA in there as a random comparison to make their own team look better 😂😂😂😂😂
