I had no idea that Chauncey Billups got second at Carlsbad.

I was calling him Fekele because his name is Fekele. No I didn't miss Fekele and I mentioned him last year; however, as good as Abrahem Cherkos Fekele will be I think Augustine Choge will be better. I will agree that Fekele should be spoken of as a possible challenger to Kenenisa and Augustine before Tariku in the future. Augustine Choge who is still a junior in 2006 and ran 7:28.78/12:53.66 (2005) as an 18 yr old is still the junior with the most potential/talent. If I remember correctly Tariku was thought to be the next Kenenisa Bekele by alot of posters on this board and yet he's 3 wins vs 11 loses to Augustine Choge.
Yes PLEASE remember Abrahem Fekele name but don't be shocked with the Kenyan teenagers Augustine Choge and Veronica Wanjiru start to challenge the top Ethiopians at major Championships in the near future.
you all are rediculous....like you all know how old he is by lookin at a picture..i know some kids that look 30 when they are 18 and some that look 15 when they are 25...
and besides the point.. HE RAN REALLY FAST 8:16.... so it is what it is....and yes look at his face he is young!! he has a baby face.. balding does not matter. i started balding around 15..that has nothing to do with your age..it's in your genes and some kids mature faster than others..
stop takin the easy way out and sayin...oo he is old....like you know everything or somthing..
where i come from we call yall hatters
he looks like hes in his 20's not 16...
man, he doesn't even look like he's 16....if i'd guess i'd say around 12 or 13

WRONG. It's FeLeKe, not FeKeLe as you continue to repeat incorrectly over and over again. Gee Vipam, what has gotten into you?? In fact, earlier this year, when you did reference Feleke, you pasted results with his name spelled correctly, and YOU STILL wrote it wrong (look it up, I can link to your bad post if you want). You are really letting me down Vipam. I used to look to you to update us on the up and coming African stars, but I no longer trust you to do that. I will have to take over from you now in the department.
And I am beating you to the punch AGAIN.....on Mr FeLeKe's progress right now. See below, he just cracked 13:00 (in an otherwise fairly slow race for many other top runners). Imagine if he truly is near 16 years old????
The Emperor 3.0. First it was Geb, then Bekele, and NOW..........Abreham Cherkos Feleke. You heard it HERE first.
(and to others, don't count on Vipam for any info, he is too unreliable. I am your man now!)

Ok Ethio Boy, we can "share" him!
(but Vipam gets NO piece of him. NONE. He's OUR guy!!!! :-) )
I've realized something with you americans. Because you can't produce great runners who are under 20yrs, and when a genuine african brothers runs so well, you start complaining about their age? Here is the truth, America.
The Ethiopian kid is simply awesome and talented. Instead of pointing fingers at our african brothers, you better tell your disgracefully slow runner to either step up, or quit calling themselves runners. As far as running goes, african brothers will always kick butt - and your sorry slow wannabe 'runners' will always whine and accuse africans for lying with their age.
proud to be Ethiopian!!!!!
Once again, ethiopian, Kenyan, Tanzanian athletes lie about their age
I'd be willin' to bet dollars to donuts that Feleke is at least 20. Canova posted a response on another thread a few days ago about how many africans lie about their age, and some of the time it's the government that allows them to get away with it.

I'd make the same bet. This is also useful propaganda to keep the rest of the world scared (not like they need it for now, though) and thinking they can't possibly ever compete with the Kenyans and Ethiopians. How can they even dream of it when 16-year-olds are regularly running faster than their national record holders? Might as well just get that cube job, wife, and 2.5 kids, and quit.
Though they aren't close yet, American runners are moving in the right direction to change this. Their strength and depth has been increasing every year. Remember when 3:37 and 13:20 would win a national championship? That was just a few years ago...things have changed fast.
Yes, American distance running is moving in the right direction. I think a good part of it is just becoming more aware and knowledgeable of the sport, meaning incorporating better training techniques. And once people at the top begin to succeed more, the people at the bottom will see this and realize that it is possible given the right approach to running, which will be publicized by the successors in the sport. Hopefully this means a rise to and a stay at the top of distance running for Americans.
"American distance running is moving in the right direction."
thanks to mebrahtom keflezghi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll hve you a bet that this guy's time does not improve below 12:50.
That's outstanding of course but if he really were 16 you would be expecting him to get down to 12:10 or so!
He looks in his forties, you can't tell with the Africans
