You could say that about anyone, it was a 3:35 race lots of guys from the heats “could have won”, if nuguse or Jacob was in it he could have won too as he would have changed the way it played out. Hocker did some low iq racing, it’s not about how fast you can run 100m at the end, tactics and positioning is part of racing.
I think a healthy Jakob might have won if he took the role tim did. Probably 50/50. But if he ever had a chance to break the field from the front it would’ve been this year. No one in that field was running 3:28 low today
The first lap in 59.5 would have probably ruined his chances of winning.
Your shows exactly why this whole thread it so asinine.
If Jakob was in the race the first lap wouldn't have been a slow 59.5, so...
I don’t believe Hocker would have won, since he lost the US title and likely would have been in a relatively lower position when Wightman took off. Nader had an insane last 100m and would have been ahead of Hocker coming out of the final turn. He might have gotten third.
People will hate on this, but this is very true. Hocker would've thrived in a 1500 that played out the way it did today. We'll see how the 5k plays out for him. This years 1500m was very boring with no Jakob and with the Americans not in the mix.
Your post will probably be downvoted a lot since it's disrespectful towards Nader and Hocker getting DQed was largely his own fault. But, the truth is that he very likely would have won. Beamish probably would have won as well. As a side note, it's a shame this was an off year for Hobb Kessler since he likely would have thrived in this field as well in the shape he was in last year.
Or Hocker would have boxed himself in, who knows? Have Hocker won a 1500m yet this year?

Why would he thrive when he couldn't even qualify without cheating in a semi that was as fast as the final?
7:23 (1 sec off the WR) in the 3k. Demolished the competition in the 5k, which is his side event, with the last lap faster than today's. Not enough for you?
He also didn't win that much before the Olympic last year, but then we saw what happened.

yeah, no disrespect meant to Wightman, but if even someone like Jake Wightman who is well into his 30s, could almost win; Hocker, the reigning Olympic champion and OR holder, who also has far better kick, 800m PR and talent, would have easily demolished the field today, especially when Kerr was out. Not only was his DQ a travesty of justice, but it also denied a real show-down of the best guys. Now thanks to the official who tried to stand on the moral high ground, this 1500m will forever be remembered as a clown show just like Rio. Thank you very much really.
Jakob is done medaling at outdoor championship 1500m for good.
Different people would have won today, but still the same outcome - no medals for Jakob. No matter how you twist it, there will always be at least 3 people to beat him in any scenario. The field is just too thick these days.
Which 3 run 3:28.2 or better with him going from the front like last year. Maybe the people who wouldve had you believe Laros could run the world record would’ve said him, but I doubt it. And I don’t think anyone else would even have a chance
In a 3:28 race Jakob gets beat by Wightman, Kerr, Hocker and Nuguse. In a 3:31 race you can add Laros and R. Cheruyiot to the bunch. In a 3:34 race add Nader, Riva, Farken and T. Cheruyiot. So many believed Jakob will win or at least make the final this year. Jakob we know is sadly finished, at least in 1500m. I could see him having one last in the 5k, but not this year. Bookmark this.

So what happened to the much hyped US champ Koech?
