The father cashed in on the $100,000 reward. The kid is going to get caught anyway. The father wanted to cash in instead of someone random guy like the neighbor taking the reward.

Is that true? I’d be surprised if they give it to the shooters family.
I’d do a lot to protect my son, but in this scenario I would turn him in (without the reward). Then again my son is a respectful, caring 15 y/o kid with a girlfriend and a bunch of friends, so he would never do such a thing.
I wouldn’t. I’d support his decision and move out of the country. However, I get it. The reality is the kid would get caught eventually. The father avoided having his life ruined by turning his son in.

Small town utah...that family will most certainly have to move.
The father did not notify law enforcement; he talked to a clergy member. The minister relayed the info to a friend of his in law enforcement.
If the father did not instruct the minister to do so, the minister is a fraud.
To answer the question I would say yes I'd turn in my son. However if the death penalty is hanging over him I couldn't turn him in knowing it could be a death sentence.
This kid appears to be a young nihilist. Similar to the kid that shot Trump. Type of empty vassal that would be drawn to Antifa / Anarchism.
A young man who leans toward nihilism yes, but I'd argue it's excessive time spent in really awful gaming communities that seems to be the most common denominator with these school shooting/political assassin types.
Most of the stuff inscribed on his shell casings were memes that are common on 4chan and other message boards populated my maladjusted, irony-poisoned losers; he dressed up as a Pepe the Frog meme for Halloween; seemingly possesses an ideologically jumbled but ultimately radical world view.
I would absolutely report anyone I knew including a family member for murder/terrorism. But I would do my best to make sure they were peacefully arrested. I would also visit them regularly in prison and help with their legal case if they would accept my assistance. Their body may be incarcerated, but their soul can still be saved.
Can't understand some of the replies here. You don't grass on your own kids. No matter what they do.
Dude....You have a serious problem with ethics, integrity...What is your race, political party?
On the contrary, ethics has no obvious inroads against blood loyalty. That's why monarchies, alliances, empires, hegemonies are typically secured by arranged marriages. Treaties by the taking of blood relative hostages.
You may not agree that the blood, even of your own offspring, outweighs all else. But ethics has to be universal to be valid, and it generally isn't when it comes to this. For example, courts in at least a few states recognize family privilege, like attorney-client privilege - the right not to testify against parents or children. All states and the Feds recognize spousal privilege. Utah's not a full privilege state, but if it were this guy's wife who did it, and not his son, he would not be on the spot. The law would not compel him to tell on her.

We're not talking about the law. We're talking about right, wrong....about ethics, morality....
And I would venture to say that most Republicans would turn him in, many Democrats would not....and that is because many Democrats lack ethics/morals.
