You didn't address the Jakob part of my question. What's it called when the guy who claims to be the best fails to make the 1500m podium while his rival medals?
Seems like you're not over him
I am over him but if people wanna keep the conversation going, I wanna use the right terminology to describe his failure to make the podium while his rival medals. It'll prolly happen again in a couple weeks. I wanna be ready.
Plus he sort of changed the way the whole world trains. Not HIS system but he has made it famous.
Jakob didn't make that training system famous. His father did.
Wrong. If we are talking about the 'vehicle' for making the NM famous, that's Jakob and his brothers. Gjert may have implemented the system, but he sure didn't elevate its fame. That's down to Jakob's talent and winning mentality.

Wrong. The family tv series showed Gjert measuring his sons' lactate during training sessions. Gjert famously trained three of his sons to be high level runners, and people asked him how he did it. The oldest boys were Gjert's guinea pigs. He had perfected the system by the time Jakob came of age. Now other runners ask Gjert to coach them, and he's guiding them to be successful as well.
This thread will be all past tense soon if reports of another Achilles flare-up are true.
In the digital press conference with Jakob yesterday his achilles was fine. But the injury danger the Norwegian’s training and competition pattern put him in is clearly a problem…
Here are my thoughts about some necessary adjustments for the future:
1. I think he still should double in the global outdoor champs. It’s so fun that it could be worth it (I would of course say something else if it went wrong).
2. I think he should reduce his indoors season to only one race (preferably a 3000m/2 mile or even better a 5000m WR attempts). Of course sad to miss the entertaining indoors Euros and WC (especially with better competition ), but so many races in spikes seem to just be too dangerous.
3. Drop the outdoors Euros (except maybe the xc), and also drop the doubling in the Nationals. Again a loss, but I want him to run multiple WR attempts in multiple events.

There were no reports, Dumbo. Just some troll on Letsrun. You must have been a crap journalist.
Agree, the previous thread was a mischaracterization suggesting he's not sure if he will compete. On the other hand, I read the article linked below this morning and have to say that this quote in particular gives me a bit of pause. I hope the best for him, but it's clear that he's still at least somewhat concerned about his achilles and/or fitness on some level. Maybe that concern will go away during the early rounds next week, we'll see.
“I'm definitely improving quite a lot, day by day and [for] the last couple of weeks it’s been significantly better than the rest of the summer so there's definitely some hope. But still it's taking it day by day and maximising the effort that I can for the last week or so leading into the world championships.”

Why should he drop outdoor Euros?
There will be no qualification for a global champs from USAs next year..Would you advise any American athletes to skip USAs?

Just stop the hill sprints and his achilles will be fine.
Looking forward to people trying to tell me he’s still the best 1500m runner in the world after he loses his 4th straight global championship.
When Jakob gets a silver he "loses", when Kerr gets a silver he "medals".
this is the ultimate michael jordan like comment.
and releasing a colorful statement from a major star in a sport devoid of stars , being calked drama, well that is letsrun bigmouth basement dwelling minority in action.

Next season, he should skip Euro XC. Open up in Lievin for an easier record attempt (2000m, 3000m, 2 Miles etc). Then not race again until World Indoors. If he is feeling absolutely sure that he won’t get injured, I would go for the double again. If not, just run the 3000 which is a straight final. Then from there, open up Outdoors. There is no European Indoors so this should be a feasible schedule.

I think we need (and Jakob too) a fast 5000m indoors or/and outdoors.

That’s it! My achilles probs stopped once I quit that. Some people aren’t suited for it.

Copying A Great Runners Training, and getting the Results Jakob does are 2 ENTIRELY DIFFERENT Things. People Do NOT get the same results by training the same way. Almost everyone will be slower Than Jakob even if they did the same Training, or we could all run 3:26.37 for 1500 and no one would care, Even if you have the same genetics You should NOT train like the Champion to get there, your better off training like the Champion When you get there, but 99.9999 % will never get there.
