I highly doubt he ran this. His best over 800m is 1:46 and now he is averaging 1:48 in a 1200m? Yeah right. OP is trolling, we all know Jakob is a slowpoke who can't kick. That's how he was outsprinted in last years Olympic Final.

jakob opened his 2025 season with a freaking 3:45 mile indoors. i dont know if he actually ran this 1200m trial but it wouldnt surprise me. his lack of racing will not be a barrier to his world champs success if hes close to his february shape.
Gawd damn this is such a great thread. Just the ultimate clickbait title - it's not even trolling as such, just awesome rumor mill stuff. Love it.
As for the validity of it, highly unlikely - especially as we know Jakob very rarely likes to cross his anaerobic threshold in training and this has to be WAY over that. I mean 55.0's is obviously 2.45.0 - this is 54.05 pace? I think it's more likely to have seen him run a 2.48.0 well within himself and not crossing that threshold than it is to see him run a 2.42.1 where he's already getting close to that red line at 54.0 pace even after 600m

well, okay, but we also know that Jakob ran his 6x800 a week or two before his 7:54, which was something like 2x2:00, 2x1:55, 2x1:49

The only thing that makes this somewhat plausible is that he may have wanted to get in a race effort before Worlds since there are no remaining opportunities to do so on the circuit. However, 2:42 seems implausible in a time trial. Still, I’d love to believe that it’s true.
Also not really sure who is pacing this thing in the Jakob camp. The brothers/Magnus Tuv rotating and it might get clunky? I guess we should also note that Wightman/Kessler TT'ed a 2:14 running start 1K (obviously tacking on a 28 ups the impressive level), but that was apropos of nothing it seems. Kessler didn't make Worlds, and Wightman hasn't looked competitive yet. But that makes me think the best guys in the world might be way faster in a 1200 running start TT (with pacing and running exactly 1200 meters) than we think. Especially someone like Jakob who is a pacing machine.

I also think this was a troll thread, but it’s unfair to bring up his 800 pr because:
1. He hasn’t run the 800 in several years.
2. When he did it was either as part of a triple/quadruple, or against very subpar competition.
3. it’s clear that a guy who can run 3:26 (1:50.26 pace) could easily run faster than 1:46.
4. He trains more like a 5k runner than an 800-1500 guy. Meaning that he wouldn’t drop off as much from 800-1200 as many of his competitors.
"Easily faster" than 1:46-mid (his fastest time) might be half a second or a second at most. He has never had 800 speed and never will.

imagine believing jakob can only run 1.46 🤣
Imagine believing the runner who is routinely outkicked in the 1500 is much faster than 1:46.
2:42 coming off an Achilles injury. So he would risk tearing it in training? Pigs can fly on these boards.
Knows nothing about training, knows nothing specific about Jakob's injury and/or current condition.
But tall poppy syndrome means he has to try and put down those who are doing something meaningful in life, while all he does is talk about them, and envy them.
