Let's be honest, if Ollie was managed by Nic Bideau, he would have been selected.

This garbage is happening every single selection cycle at this point.

If there's a 50-50/discretion selection, Nic Bideau's athlete gets the spot every single time.

It really sucks trying to follow this sport sometimes. Amateur hour time and time again.

I'm a little surprised to see that the conversation on this thread has only really been comparing Jude and Olli. I had assumed that the final spot was going to be between Olli and Adam. I know Adam's mile SB was a bit better than Jude's or Olli's, but overall he hasn't placed particularly well in competitive fields (though the Monmouth Mile a few days ago was a nice upswing). Jude has just seemed like a stronger competitor than Adam this season, and I thought that Olli's experience might allow him to squeak in for the final spot.

Am I missing something that makes people think Adam was more of a sure pick than the other two?

I guess for me it was that Adam came second in Nationals. This used to be a big plus, but tbh I've got no idea how they interpret the policy now. There's too many vagaries.

Even just having an up-front selection policy that says "current form means this and is measured this way, until this point in time" would create some clarity - but of course that's not what Nic wants. He likes the murky waters because it's his competitive advantage when it comes to his cronies on the selection crew.

Jude was second his last race in 3:31 and Ollie was DFL in his last race in 3:36. Which between them is more likely to make it out of the first round? It's a pretty obvious choice

If the policy was worded so that form in the few weeks leading up was the most important criteria then that's fine.

But it isn't.

Those who have been observing this for years know that the selection policy is suitably murky so that AA favourites can be chosen via discretion any way you slice it.

Ask yourself why Hoare was even travelling to a small meet in Germany to run that race in the manor that he did. If you knew you only needed to run a solid low 3.30 race to make a team, would you have run that the way he did (basically go out at 3.29.0 pace solo?)

Btw that "last race" from Thomas was today - over a week after the WA qualifying window closed. Seems pretty late to be taking on performances to decide your team. What if Hoare comes out end of the week and runs 3.30 in another random meet somewhere?

I honestly don't care who they send and you probably right that Thomas has more chance than Hoare right now, but there is so much more going on behind the scenes that really shouldn't be.

The doubling of any of these athletes is ridiculous. Acknowledging that it’s at the back end of the program, surely there is still a psychological element that will drag. I personally think the fact Maudie got 5th at trials should put her ahead of Lauren. Linden is genuinely a medal chance in the 1500 so the fact she isn’t 100% focused on that alone is a surprise. Still - very excited, especially to see what Rose and Georgia bring! And Iz in the 10k!

Yeah I was surprised to see an appeal for the women’s 5000m, I would’ve thought Linden would’ve focused on the 1500. Griffith has posted about being selected so seems confident she’ll be running. Very confused to see Hull in the 800m over Billings.
