Riverton should be ahead of Coronado on the boys side. Riverton is better than them at all positions except for 1 and 2.
According to...? Speed ratings? Early season speed ratings are very unreliable. I get that the Utah bias is ridiculous on this site, but let's wait until we see some more results before being so sure

I agree with dwearsh. Speed ratings aside, Riverton beat Herriman and was just two points off American Fork. That tells you all you need to know.
In a 10-team meet, Coronado could probably beat Riverton. But in a 30-team meet, which is what NXR SW is, the deeper teams become heavily favored. At Cherry Creek, Coronado wasn't competitive against NXR SW mid-tier teams without its top guy. Riverton beat two likely top 10 NXR SW teams (Lehi & Davis) without its top guy.
Coronado could make it to NXN, but its 3-4-5 will have to level up to give them a chance.
On the girls side, Air Academy has been beaten handily by Heritage twice, but was still ranked higher than them. That seems a tad unreasonable.
I was curious about Lucas Timm because it’s the first I’ve heard of him so I looked around and there’s info about his dad Jacob Timm, from what I could gather off this podcast Lucas’s dad started running his senior year of high school and was able to go to Colorado on a scholarship one year before rwtb then transferred to Washington with Metcalf, but he never really did much and was always injured, after college he ended up in the USA Olympic development program for triathlon. Lucas’s mom was a soccer star at Washington on the same team as Hope Solo so the genetics look pretty strong, and now you got Lucas showing up at Niwot and already almost cracking into the 4th spot (impressive even with Rocco and Keaton not running) so maybe both freshmen grab varsity spots, wouldn’t be surprising at all, either way Niwot’s got 5 strong returners and probably some other guys who can step up if anyone from that top 5 gets sick or injured. It’s just odd and kind of out of nowhere that a freshman nobody was talking about is suddenly running well on varsity for Niwot. It’s early though so who knows which way it will go.
Niwot is still very deep outside of there top 5. So much for the earlier opinions that Niwot would only be 5-deep this year after graduating every single person from the B team that took second at RunningLane
I confess that was me. I was so sure that Niwot would need everyone on their A game to stand a chance and would only have Ritz to help but they developed guys and got another fast freshman.
AF boys are looking great, like usual. Their ability to reload is just ridiculous. No other team in the country is like this.
Herriman gets close. CBA deserves a mention as well. They lost 4 varsity guys and their low stick and are still looking better than they were last year(at least in track).
Measured at 3.05 miles. Grass with the northwest section of dirt. Very nice conditions this morning 65-72 degrees, sunny to partly cloudy, with a light breeze at times.
Sheesh. Looks like Westlake is a serious contender for NXR top 4 as well. Boulder looks super strong, too. There’s a lot of attention on Coronado, but if I had to bet, I’d say Boulder has the second-best chance at top 4 among Colorado teams after Niwot. They had 6 guys 15:40 or faster today. Even on a super fast Liberty Bell course, that’s the kind of depth you need to have a shot in a deep NXR SW field.

My boys top ten right now:
1. Niwot
2. AF
3. Herriman
4. Riverton
5. Westlake
6. Maple Mountain
7. Boulder
8. Coronado
9. Davis
10. Mountain View
It’s a joke at this point that they aren’t sending more SW teams to NXN

Looks like 2 of CBA’s projected top 5 were farther back than expected in this race
American Fork has a big spread, 1min from 15:07 to nearly 16 minutes. Assuming they run 30 seconds faster at NXR, that’s 14:30 to 15:30. Should be enough to qualify, but maybe not top 2.

They had a boy, Hejny, run 15:35 in the JV race. I believe he can't run varsity yet because of transfer rules. If he had been in the varsity race that narrows the spread down to 41 seconds (15:08-15:49)
Also their top returner from last year, Plewe, hasn't been racing. He was 54th at NXN last year. Not sure if he's out with injury or something else, but if he can return and be a top 5 guy then that spread will shrink even more. He ran 1:50/4:07/9:10 in the track season, so he's a real talent - hope he can return to good form for the championship races.
Scary thing for next year is that 6 out of their 7 runners in the varsity race are underclassmen.
