Other people like info on why they think things went wrong. How you take it is up you. Jacob fans loved having an excuse for why he lost. Yared feels like he is just hearing is experience and not throwing a pity party. You are free to feel however you want.
I always wonder how many of the choke jobs we talk about you would feel differently about if you knew the details. I know the kid we expected to win states came in 6th and some people thought he was a choker. The ones who knew he had a 101 fever 3 days earlier saw him as a gamer….
I’m a Jac(k)ob fan and I didn’t even hear the excuse. What one did he make?
Just the normal Inwas sick after getting drilled at the WC and when Nuguse won last year…
Jakob had the same excuse last year at the very same meeting and many posters here got angry, including Gault. It’s time we hold Goose to the same standard!

Exactly. It’s probably a lie. And even if it isn’t whining about how you were sick is disrespectful to the other athletes who are better than you.

If I was Nuguse, I wouldn’t have mentioned it, but you guys are blowing it way out of proportion. None of the six guys that beat him at Zurich give a crap.
This figures. Still, he had a very good year overall. Indoor world record, DL win, contention. And ultimately, what a class individual, big smile even in defeat and disappointment, great competitor.
If you are setting indoor records, I wonder how peaked you are for summer qualifying? I mean ultimately it comes down to 2 sec in this sport, but I wonder.

There’s enough time between the indoor and outdoor seasons to be 100% for the outdoor meets that count. The athletes and their coaches know what they’re doing.
I dont get why people get triggered by an athlete share the circumstances around their meet. When I was watching an interview with Yared it was obvious for me that he had a cold.

It's called social media for a reason.
Voice of decrepit old man: Back in my day...if we got our a$$ kicked, nobody asked about it because it was obvious and nobody had a bunch of electronic "friends" that wanted to hear about it or your boyfriend. It's all about getting acceptable attention for unacceptable behavior. All the glory and none of the consequences.
In my experience, you are always worse with a cold, but you can still race pretty well on the first day or two of the cold but then have no shot for quite a while afterwards. Recovery is slow and it takes a couple weeks after onset to race well again.
Agree with this. Elite running is one of the few sports where having a cold can be a difference maker. One can play a soccer game or basketball game with little drop off in performance but in running it is absolutely game changing. You have almost no chance of winning a 1500 at this level with a cold when the margins are so thin. Bad luck.

If indoor effected outdoor results, does anyone think Jacob would have raced it?
Now anyone who took GST seriously might have made a mistake. Running fast in April/may is questionable but it looks like guys Kerr and Hocker just showed up for the paycheck….

He didn’t “share the circumstances” he made a whiny excuse. It’s sore loser behavior.
The post is ok, but he could've worded it different so as not to sound like he was making an excuse. He should've just left out the part about having a cold, or just say "I picked up a cold prior to the race, it wasn't too bad, but still wasn't ideal heading into the race. I don't think it would've made a significant difference, Laros was just too good tonight".
