Also a weird race with Hoppel so far back in 148. But he tends to jog it in more lackadaisically than most once something has gone awry and he is out of it.
Great race. I did think he looked too tight in the face early on and his coach needs to talk with him about relaxing. But then he won, so what do I know?
It looked to me like he had his game face on and also brought his A game.
Isn't Hoey the first American to beat Wanyonyi and Arop in the same race? Wait he maybe the first athlete ever to beat both of them in the same race 😯.
Sedjati beat both in 2022 worlds
I forgot about Sedjati. Wonder why he didn’t race?
Superb race from Hoey in slow conditions. I wonder whether some of the runners were worried about sustaining an injury from pushing too hard. Wanyonyi was also a bit boxed. I am not sure that he pushed it all the way in after that but Hoey was certainly the best out there today and has a fine shot to make it to World's, albeit only around 20-30% with all the variables of a top-notch one-off final in the 800m against a field like Wanyonyi, Arop, and Attaoui.

Wanyonyi eased up in the last 50 to do enough to get 2nd but he didn’t try to max out for every millisecond.

I think on nights like these where it's miserable weather and the guys have been waiting around in rain, warming up in rain and having to race in the rain, there can be moments when you know it's not your night, and you have zero interest in fighting it. And once you mentally check out, even 1.41/2 guys like Hoppel can lay an egg and look like a HS runner. I wouldn't read much into it - had it been 75 and a typical Lausanne night and he dropped 1.48 I think it's a totally different situation.

100% on the mark.
Of course that won't satisfy the keyboard warriors thousands of miles away in their pajamas. Simply moving forward is incomprehensible to them.

You have any post you don’t like axed and then you complain about keyboard warriors. You need to learn to move forward.
And yes, the horrible weather cost the field some time. How much? Who knows? Certainly not you.
