Yep, he's listed in the Budapest 3000 startlist. Among other guys aiming to rack up points. Dogfight.
Great for him.
He should improve in his 7:44 PB for sure
He may unfortunately need to run a Canadian record of 7:31.9 and win this race to rack up enough points to earn one of the 2 or 3 spots which will be awarded on points

Currently there's 32 with the entry standard and 42 start places in Tokyo. The only fast 5000 left is Lausanne, where you'd assume almost everyone on the startlist already has the standard. So there will likely be at least 8-10 places awarded on points.
I think 1230 points will probably get you in the ranking.
Oordegem was 1198.
Say he comes 6th in Budapest he gets 80 bonus points. A 7:35 is 1208 points. So realistically a solid run would get him 1290-1300 points.
He would then need one more result of around 1200 points for a 1230 average. 1200 points is 13:02. The auto standard is only 13:01 though, so unless he does something really special tonight in Budapest, then he will need to go chase the standard somewhere.
If he doesn't get a start in Lausanne, and runs a 5000 at a random F Category meet, he could get 15 points to win, which means he would have to run more like a 13:07 if he gets around 1300 points today.
Let's say he runs 7:30 today and wins, then he would get 1380 points (1240+140). Combined with Oordegem (1198) and his 1141 points from LA he would probably have enough points to be comfortably in the quota.
I think someone needs to go measure that track in Belgium. Multiple guys and gals popping off some major outliers in that 5k the other night. I mean, c’mon, Olin Hacker 13:02? Lauren Ryan 14:40? And then there was the men’s steeple…. I’m just not buying it and their results the remainder of the year will back up my hypothesis that this is one of those “Rieti” tracks that probably has some shenanigans going on.

what kind of shenanigans did rieti have?
I think we also have to consider that this was a tactical race and maybe these guys culd have run 5 or 6 seconds faster.
last comment: does Justyn Knight need to consider a move up the ladder. 10000 or roads?
maybe 1 more full year of good training will bring him closer to his former self. We all know 29 doesn't need to be anywhere close to over the hill.

At this point, in the last 10 days:
He ran a 3000m PB. Improving to 7th on all time Canadian list
He ran his second fastest 5000m
…after being absent since 2021.
Can we simply applaud him.
I hope that he can find a spot on a couple more decent start lists
So he gets his first PB in many years (7:41.1) for 13th.
That won’t get him any much needed points unfortunately.
Winning time 7:33.2
His time will earn him 1170 points, so he will improve on his ranking but not sufficiently to bring himself into contention unfortunately.
Again ignoring any placing points from his last 2 races (don't think he would have got any in Budapest) - I've got him on:
1197 - Belgium (13:03)
1170 - Budapest (7:41)
1141 - Sunset Tour (13:18)
That would bring him to 1169 (83rd overall) and make him the second highest ranked Canadian behind Mo, but still well shy of the 1216 needed. Still - a nice return to some form for him.
