You don't "unlock" a spot for the World Champs. Per World Athletics, the wild card applies to the "Winner of the 2025 Diamond League" and only the winner. It can't be given to someone else. So Cooper or Drew would need to somehow win the final in order to qualify that way.
If, say, Fisher wins the DL Final, then he qualifies. USATF's three spots would then go to Young, Blanks, and whoever's next on the list (i.e. Hunter or Teare), since they no longer have to use one of those spots for Fisher.
1. I was referring to the original poster’s idea that Blanks winning the DL final would unlock a spot for Hunter or Teare. It wouldn’t. The wild card would go to him and USA’s three spots would stay with the top 3, as Blanks was 13th at trials.
2. Fisher most likely will not qualify for the final based on points. Even if he does, why would he race it? Zurich 5k is August 28th while WC 10k is just over 2 weeks later on September 13th.
3. If Fisher did someone win the DL final, the team would be, in order of USAs finish: Hocker, Fisher, Young, and Teare. Blanks won’t get in unless he wins in Zurich.
More important to than an AR will be how Grant and Graham place in the race.
Currently, Nico is 5th on the 3/5 DL standings with 10 points, Graham in 10th with 8 points. Kuma Girma/ETH leads with 20 points. Grant has yet to race a DL this year.
Top-10 on points after the last DL meet in Brussels on 8/22 advance to the Zurich DL final on 8/27-28. Winner gets the DL bye to Tokyo.
So, if you're a fan of US distance racing and would like to see 4 American men toe the 5000 line @ WCs, root like hell for Grant and Graham to place 1-2 or something real close so that one or both score enough points to advance to the Zurich 3000 final -- and win, unlocking the 4th spot for Cooper Teare (5th @ USAs, has the Tokyo Q) or Drew Hunter (4th @ USAs, does not have the Q or top-42 WA ranking points).
Note: if Drew wants to go to Tokyo, then along with hoping a US man (Grant, Nico, Graham) wins the Zurich DL final, he'll need to get into at least one Euro race to get his Q, or place high in a fast race to get his WA points into the top-42. However, don't know if Drew's agent has enough juice to get him a spot along side Grant & Graham in Lausanne. More likely, a couple of fast CT meets where, if he wins, he'll rack up the requisite points. Stay tuned on this.
It’s crazy in the best way possible we are discussing Americans winning the DL final!

First, thanks to poster above who clarified DL race winners receive 8 points, not 10. So, Nico's 10 points comes from winning the Oslo meet then finishing 7th in Paris (2 points).
Re: Grant, agree that even if he wins Lausanne, those 8 points would be his only DL points, not likely to place him in the top-10 who advance to the Zurich final. But, maybe, if enough guys currently in the top-10 do not race Lausanne, allowing Grant to finish in a multiple-man tie for 10th or higher with those 8 points. In any case, Grant must win Lausanne to have any chance of qualifying for Zurich. Grant specifically stated he will be racing Lausanne then said, hopefully, Zurich.
Also re: Grant, only passing along what he said in his post-USAs interview: he's back in Park City for a week, then flying out to St. Moritz to set up camp there while he races in Europe, then flying to an altitude camp WA and/or USATF has set up in Japan in preparation for Worlds.

Zurich final is a 3000.
Tokyo 10,000 is 16 days later.
Plenty time for anyone who races it to recover.
Also, Grant stated post-USAs he's looking forward to one final, hard training block in Europe (including the Lausanne & maybe Zurich races), then a long taper to Tokyo. That taper to Sept 13th would extend to 24 days if Lausanne is his only European race.

Also, Nico stated post-USAs 5000 race he wants to race Zurich -- but made no mention of Lausanne.
Lausanne start lists were just released; no Nico, implying he believes his 10 DL points for 5th place will be good enough to advance him to the Zurich final.
Most here believe Grant cannot make Zurich even if he wins Lausanne, since 8 points FTW would be his only DL points, likely not enough to place him in the top-10 at that point.
Then we have Graham, currently in 10th place with 8 points. If 10 points turns out to be enough to advance to Zurich, then Graham would only need a 7th place Lausanne finish to pick up those couple extra points.
So, presuming Nico & Graham do race Zurich but Grant does not, a Nico win in the 3000 Weltklasse final would unlock a 4th US spot for either Drew (who's aiming to win NACAC this weekend which, apparently, would garner so many WA ranking points he would jump into the top-42 WA rankings, thus eligible for Tokyo) or Cooper (who has his Tokyo Q). A Graham win would get him to Tokyo as the DL finals winner, along with Cole, Grant & Nico.
If Grant does race & win Zurich, then, like a Nico win, he would unlock a 4th US spot for either Drew or Cooper.
Thanks for all prior posters who clarified these intricacies.
