The whole sport is amateur hour
i did see Noah lyles signing autographs before leaving the track
a lot of the food shut down hours before the end of the meet
when entering neither of my tickets could be scanned or any in the line next to me they just let people in. We had great seats I think they were 145 a peice right by the start finish second row (row b). but we could have bought the cheapest tickets and sat there. nobody check tickets or seats
You’re lucky Siegel didn’t sell your seats to someone else an hour before you arrived.
I don’t know what she was doing but Emily infield took over 40 minutes to do her lap of honor

I'd pay to see Parker Valby run live.

We spent thousands of dollars to come to Eugene from Minnesota to watch the meet. We spent months talking about which athletes we wanted to get autographs from given the victory lap the athletes usually take and our experience in the past... only for the men's 10K team to run away from the track at the end. I understand they need to get ready for the 5K, but no wonder the sport is dying. There's no obligation to the fans.
Last year, at the Trials, I found that athletes were happy to take selfies but did not want to give autographs. Mostly, that's because signatures take longer than selfies (especially if it is a t-shirt and there's nothing solid to put underneath it). Lots of people can fit in a picture but signatures are a one-at-a-time thing. It also makes perfect sense from a business perspective: selfies are put up on Instagram, giving athletes free exposure, while signatures are sold on eBay or kept in a closet.
Also, athletes wanted to do this after their last event. The top 10k guys are saving their energy until after the 5k, so yeah, not good timing. After the 5k, though, they might be at the track for hours interacting with fans.
At the trials, Grant, Nuguse, and Cole were hard to get--they didn't do the lap around the track but went to a crowded event just outside the track IIRC. But my kids and I got selfies with Lyles, Brandon Miller, Nikki, Karissa and a bunch of others with no problem. Almost got Hoppel and Kessler--who were jumping in and out of the stands for selfies--but they called it a day just before they got to us. For what it's worth, also got to talk with Karissa's granddad for about 30 minutes at an OTC event. He was a really cool dude and a heck of a runner himself back in the day.
For selfies, the best spot is probably somewhere between 100-200 m. Many of the athletes bail by 300m.

I’m trying to imagine a family that would spend thousands to fly to Los Angeles to see the Dodgers play and then feel robbed after Shohei Ohtani failed to wait around in Dodger Stadium after the game to sign autographs for everyone.
Or in this case wouldn’t sign autographs between innings he’s pitching

A post like this makes me root against T&F.

Stalk the athletes hotel. Wait for the athletes to board the shuttle bus.
Should have said you were from MN in thread to save everyone time.

Hang around the drug testing zone.
Pro running may be foolish Pre, but I'd prefer an army of Olympic dreamers or even just hobby joggers over an army of greedy soldiers signing themselves to fight as fodder for the rich just for a signing bonus from them, and even yet that army of Olympians that already exist remain silent to such a vision. I'll do it myself. If you want my autograph come find me running on the battlefield of absolutely destroyed rubble. And remember, Tuck ur hips.

That's right! The track clowns need to dance and perform for my amusement! They are obligated to me when I buy a ticket to the meet to sign my bloody napkin. Never mind where the blood is coming from. Sometimes noses bleed, dangit.
After all, it's not like they have other things going on in their lives. Those selfish jerks.
The sport is dying, I say! And it's because the clowns won't dance and sign my napkins! House Settlement? What's that?
Better chance of getting Bill Cosby autograph then Bill Russell.
Who needs fans to make you perform for them? Sports is only entertainment....go run in an empty stadium or the local track. Why should athletes be expected to perform? Right clown boi?

This is definitely a real thing that happened.
You can get countless autographs at an IndyCar event. Professionals who make a ton of money, RARELY shy away from photos and autographs, even on race days.
The entire Eugene experience is incredibly expensive and sad for many fans. I don't blame fans for being pissed at the impersonal nature these days. Twenty Years ago it was much different. I could talk to virtually anyone I wanted under and around the old Hayward facilities. Good times.
Yes, berkegh, many selfish jerks unfortunately these days at Hayward. For no legit reason. Not everyone, but many.
No wonder this sport it dying…
the dang road race crowd led fans to believe the 10,000 run is a 10k
