Made a commitment to run every day and succeeded because
-I had saved up enough money to buy a new pair of Nike Cortez shoes, first pair of shoes I ever bought by/for myself
-wanted to race xc better
-went out to run at the same time every day
-was inspired by '72 Olympics
-ran by feel and mainly just easy distance covering 3 to 5 mile loops I knew
-the physical part was easy as I was a young teenager that was already active and fit
-there was a mental struggle as I lacked self confidence and feared what other people would think or do seeing a runner (there were very few other runners where I lived and I ran alone). I did the same loops combining parks, trails, etc. where I encountered few other people until confidence grew.
-there was a mental struggle to get out and run every day until it became a habit.
