Bill Ackman just announced $10M donation to Tennis Hall of Fame after creating a fiasco by sneaking into the doubles draw with Jack Sock. $78,000 would be a pocket change in comparison.

My guess is they got used of the Kingston track for free in return for re-laying it in black, yellow and green.

They should let this guy race Kenny in a 100m or Grant in a 5k (his pick) in exchange for $10mil. Would be hilarious and profitable.
you have ANY idea how much new mondo/track surface costs? 100K for rental would be a BARGAIN compared to what a mondo install would be....not a chance this was the deal.
As the face and creator of GST, MJ deserves a big share of the blame, but let's not forget about Bill Ackman and The Winner's Alliance. Ackman promised $30mil. to support GST in its first year. We all know the athletes haven't been paid, but the question I want to know is did Bill Ackman and the Winner's Alliance live up to their promise? It wouldn't be the first time Bill Ackman over promised and under achieved.

I don't think it's time to push the panic button just yet. No one except the athletes know for sure what the payment plan is for appearance fees and or prize money. It looks as though the athletes signed NDA's (non-disclosure agreements), which means they can't discuss the terms of payment publicly. Otherwise, everyone would be screaming from the roof-tops about getting paid. I believe "some" appearance fees were paid, maybe just a percentage at the start of the season with the remaining balance the end of September along with any earned prize money. If the athletes are aware of this and agreed to it then there's no issue. If for some reason, payments are substantially delayed, or defaulted on, MJ and Co. are up sh^t creek without a paddle. The one thing that is concerning is MJ bringing on a few new investors at the last minute. This would be an early indication of GST needing money to cover costs. Also, the athletes will be in the back of line behind the facilities and outside vendors who are owed money. Delinquent payments of facility fees will incur late fees from the cities who hosted the meets. The cities and vendors don't care about your financial woes, they want their money ASAP!
I'd wait until the end of September before dropping the hammer on GST. If the fall rolls around and GST hasn't cleared their books, it may be time to get the life boats ready.
Ya'll be some bustas
Did anyone who bought tickets to the LA meet get their money back? The press release claimed 10-14 business days for a refund and we are well past that. Anyone here have first hand knowledge?
I don't like Johnson's language, he talks about "paying money" to athletes. I prefer the more traditional language, of athletes "winning money."

How did people think they were gonna get the bucks when like 500 people watched it?
I don't think people expected them to be profitable at the start. I think people thought they had investors that believed in their vision.

Lol, I'll forward your 'preference' to MJ asap.
So many track fans were utterly delusional about the prospects of this league.

Yes, within a week. I don't think it took even 10 days.
The biggest mistake MJ seems to have made with this league is accepting investor money based on unreasonable viewership/attendance metrics. Bill Ackman is not getting nearly enough hate if the athletes continue to not get paid. PoS pulling money out of a league that was on an upward trajectory meet-to-meet and was honestly doing slightly (only slightly) better than my low expectations. What a freaking grinch. It takes more than one season to build something at that scale. MJ obviously made some over-reaching promises here, but I blame Ackman more than anyone else.

The plebs always come last. And athletes are just above fans in the ranks. Unless their elite level.
It's a joke that you have an international sport with money swilling around everywhere and somebody ranked 24 in the world might struggle to pay the bills.
Meanwhile the big timers and various overpaid bureaucrats are ringfenced off from competition.
Free market for the plebs. Fix ups for the big timers!
There's the deserving rich and the undeserving 😃. Divide and conquer.

If anybody is interested, they are still selling Grand Slam Los Angeles T-shirts on their website for only $35!
If you go to the products page, the LA shirt is listed as "most sold" which suggests their merchandising was a fail too.

Yep, I got mine over a week ago.
GST bankruptcy in 3..2..1..
The same Bill Ackman… Chairman of the Board of GST’s largest sponsor that apparently pulled out.
Blaming Bill Ackman for GST behind on their bills, might be peak TDS in 2025.

If it cost them $78,000 to rent the tiny Miramar track, I wonder how much it cost to rent Franklin Field? Or Kingston? Have they paid for Kingston yet?
They might have gotten that for free. I think one of the main reasons they went to Kingston was they got paid by the Jamaican tourism board. Much like USATF going to Bermuda.
But going to a place with a GDP per capita of $6k wasn't smart if they were looking for ticket revenue. I still can't believe they didn't/couldn't get people to show up by giving the tickets away. Think about it. There are no pro sports in Jamaica of note. Why wouldn't people show up?
