So there you have it. Confirmation 'Sir Mo' has moved to Qatar.
Now he is right, London is a crime-ridden unsafe hellhole and unsafe.
But, he for years took UKA funding, basically made his fortune thanks to Britain, and he's buggard off to Qatar.
Sounds like he did nothing wrong, brought great glory to—these days not so Great—Britain, and exercised his right to liberty and pursuit of happiness, principles going all the way back to the Magna Carta that I’m sure modern day UK still upholds as sacred.
The UK is free to enact a more cutthroat tax law for its wandering citizens like the US does.
Get to a socialist country for the freebies including training etc. If you make it big dump your allegiance and retire to a tax haven where you can stop supporting the unwashed, and pull the ladder up. How many trillions in offshore accounts? All God approved presumably.
Maxim - When I am poor share the wealth, when I am rich get your hands off losers.
It's funny I keep on hearing that the "cities are going to burn" etc. Yet nobody ever says that about Monaco or the tinpot dictatorships used for Western money laundering. They are about as non anti-fragile as you can get.
Long live the rich, long live money, long live Gekko!
Not a real comparison. 85 percent of the people in Qatar are imported workers from the Philippines and Nepal, and Burma. The tiny permanent population live off the labor of these people with the vast oil dollars. Raising a kid in an environment of a prefabricated society like that would be strange.
The sun has finally set on Britain after it had pillaged and raped countries around the world for centuries.
Ultimately, this mindset is why the West is capitulating hegemony to countries which play by rules TODAY, which the British wouldn't have deemed accepted 200 years ago.
But why hasn’t Brexit fixed EVERYTHING as promised by the far right in the UK? It’s been over 5 years why haven’t far right policies like Brexit fixed all that was promised would be fixed by making Britain “independent” aka isolationist?
disclosure: i voted to leave. I dont think everything about the EU was bad, I just felt the "more europe" mantra from the EU is not conducive to a strong UK. This was probably the only chance we were going to get in the next 50 years!
Mainly because the politicians in the Conservatives and Labour and Lib Dems didnt actually want Brexit. It was the people! The government spent £27million sending a pamphlet to every house begging us to vote to stay in. The government even set the question . It was all set to be as rigged as possible. The media ran project fear. There will be an emergency budget. House prices will collapse. The economy will tank. In the end none of that happened! Even the markets recovered inside 3 months!
When we didnt vote as instructed they did EVERYTHING to obstruct it. Even some MPs went to Brussels to help out the EU screw the UK over, in the vain hope that if the EU offered a really shtty deal that the public would beg for a 2nd ref.
And we didnt then either!
Sadly when we finally got someone in who was pro Brexit (Bojo) Covid hit and then he was a bit daft and the media and opposition nobbled him and we got half hearted Brexit. Governments since then have actively avoided doing anything that would give the UK a leg up over the EU, Starmer even recently signed us up to mirror their standards on everything! If we were going to do that, we might as well have stayed in! Politicians across the house, they still pray the population will want to rejoin. They quite liked for 40ish years being able to "blame the EU" (even when it wasnt the EU fault) for everything and now we've taken that away, its exposed them for this dross they are!
In terms of far right hyperbole. I guess that label also counts for Switzerland and Norway as they were never in the EU.
Farah will live in a nice gated multimillionaire community in Qatar, which will obviously be safer than living in a random neighborhood of London. Qatar also doesn't allow protests to get out of hand like UK does.
However, if not a multimillionaire in a sheltered community, Qatar is definitely not good place for his kids if any are female, LBGTQ, have developmental disabilities, etc. Also its really hot there.

Thanks for the detailed response. Perhaps you don’t agree with the way some posters have characterized London and the UK in general in this thread then? Do you feel Brexit has improved the economic and “social” issues it was supposed to improve? If not, do you think there will be benefit from the referendum at some point? If so, when?
London averages about 115 murders a year. About 11 per million people. The usa would envy such numbers in any city.
Exactly. London's homicide rate is less than Boise, Idaho.
Misleading to the extent of practically a lie.
Homicides in the UK are counted after a conviction or a guilty plea. In the US, homicides are counted when the authorities conclude that a deceased person was murdered.

And how many murders go unsolved in London? Considering it's the most serious of crimes there are going to be relatively few that do not eventually lead to a conviction.

The UK did not get half hearted Brexit. It got a far more full throated Brexit than anyone expected.
It's not part of the single market, customs union, schengen area, euro currency, or common defense policy. There is no more EU for the UK to leave, it is not involved in any part of the EU anymore.
