Does Grant Fisher really belong in this field? I mean I know he's an incredible 3-10k runner, but his 1500 PB is 3:33:99 and his mile PB is even slower at 3:59.
His speed is better than ever. He will run 3:48.x and will place in the middle of the pack.
If Nike wants him to race and Grant is good with it, why not? No tactics but he can benefit from racing a hard mile.

Agreed - working on speed has the potential to help Grant a lot come world championships, and he’s valuable to Nike right now from a marketing perspective. Coming off of two Olympic medals, two indoor world records, being American, well spoken, personable, conventionally attractive - Nike wants Grant out there doing Nike things like Pre, the breaking 4 event in Paris, etc. His social media presence has also noticeably increased over the last year or so, which may or may not be Nike directed. Win for Nike, win for Grant.
Why isn't Kerr racing? I realize he doesn't like to race that often but what the hell - it's the Bowerman Mile. Does he not race Diamond League in general? I love this field but it would be much better with the defending Olympic silver medalist.

He's racing London on July 19. But I agree - he should race Pre since GST LA was cancelled.

I’ll take him at his word: he doesn’t like fast-paced, all-out time trials. Obviously if it’s windy or pacing is off this could be a “tactical” 3:47-8

I think following the conclusion of GST (or planned conclusion), and not being a Nike athlete, Kerr would have committed to a training block leading into London DL.
Kerr isn't the kind of guy to change his plans. He is also probably satisfied getting the mental edge over many of those guys that raced in GST, winning 2x 1500m races. No need to race them again and risk losing that.

If Jakob never got injured, he would have destroyed this field, running 3:42 minimum.
Agree, but he wouldn't really be Jakob if he didn't push himself near or over the limit each year by the time championship season is here.
Initially, Pre was close to the final GST so Kerr chose instead to run his home DL in London. He gets a bigger payday and to run in front of 50,000+ people. He also thought he was signing on to race Jakob, and I still hope Jakob turns up - even coming off injury, he's shown he's more than capable of running well.
When GST was cancelled, it's then up to Pre to make Kerr an offer he can't refuse. Maybe as a Brooks athlete, and a non-American, Nike didn't want to give him a big fee. I'm sure there is a number that could have got him on that start line, but as of now, it looks like Nike don't want to pay it.
